Who was your first movie crush?

Regular readers of this blog know well my fondness for Amy Adams, who is perhaps best known for her role as Giselle in Disney’s Enchanted, one of my favorite films of 2007.

Amy and I

Thing is, she’s hardly the first Disney girl I’ve had my eye on. I’ve been crushing on Disney girls for years. No, decades.

That’s why I was so looking forward to Race to Witch Mountain, which I shall review Friday. You see, my very first movie crush - my first inkling of any sort that girls were cute, really - was Kim Richards, who played Tia in Disney’s Witch Mountain movies. It was her appearance in the second movie, 1978’s Return from Witch Mountain, that caught the eye of this then-7-year-old.

I’m not sure what it was. Maybe that red outfit had something to do with it. All I can remember is I thought she was kinda cool. And I wished I could move objects with my mind too.

And wouldn’t you know it, she’s still pretty cute now! She has a cameo in the new movie.

So that’s mine, folks.Who’s yours? Who was the first celebrity guy/gal to catch your eye? This being a movie blog, movie stars are preferred, but in the interest of widening our net, I’ll take TV and music stars too.

Confess!

Born in the early 60’s. For me, it was Angela Cartwright on Lost in Space; after her, it was Maureen McCormick on Brady Brunch.

Simple. The year was 1977, I was 5 years old, and I crushed, big time, on Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher).

My first movie crush was Tony Curtis. I think it had something to do with his cartoon character version on the Flintstones (showing my age here!), but I used to watch the movie “Houdini” every time it was on television, in the good old days before VCRs and DVRs.

There were two of them…but neither one of them were in the movies. One was a local television personality,Kim Christy who hosted Kim’s Kartoon Kapers on the former WKTR-TV back in 1967. She was cute, sweet and cheerful!…and I was a skinny ‘ol geek at the age of thirteen back then. The other one was Maureen McCormick as Marcia Brady just a couple of years later

First it was Kirk Cameron and then it was Donnie Wahlberg from the New Kids on the Block, then I moved onto Joe McIntire, same group. Then I faced reality.

Mine was Amy Irving. She was in a movie w/Richard Dreyfus where they were both piano players….can’t remember the name of it. Anyway, something about her innocence and the way she carried herself with such grace just captivated me. :-)

Hands down all time movie crush is Kerri Green! Yep … the girl from Goonies and Lucas. She is supposed to be returning to the big screen in a movie this year called “Complacent”, although I don’t know that much about it.

First movie crush was, without a doubt, Tom Cruise. But not from Top Gun or Risky Business (which only improved his prospects). No, the movie Legend totally had me crushing from here to next Wednesday. And appropriately, the movie also features Cathy’s first husband! lol

Gotta give a shout out for Kurt Russell here too; that smile of his still gets me. But for me it was and always will be John Travolta… liked him on Kotter but really fell hard when Grease came out and then again with Saturday Night Fever!! Nowadays though I have to say that Kurt has withstood the test of time better than John has but if either of them wants to call me… I’ll be on the first plane out of here!! :)

This is an easy one - mine has Disney origins too - Kurt Russell! I just thought he was an absolute “dreamboat” in all of those early Disney flicks, and he was on the TV show every now and then too. I remember him on a TV special introducing the magic of the brand new ride - the Haunted Mansion (which was doubly excited because it also featured the Osmond Brothers and i had a crush on Donny by then too - teenybopper overload - ha!). Talk about someone with a long movie career! I have been lucky enough to get to watch him over the years - even though the movies haven’t always been stellar - he has remained yummy to my aging eyes - ha!

This one’s easy - since I’m an 80s kinda girl, I’ll go with John Cusack. As most girls from this era, I’m still looking for my Lloyd. As I’ve gotten older, I refined my taste to Cary Grant and most recently - George Clooney. To me, he is one of the most intelligent and versatile people out there.

My first and lasting crush is Tim Curry. I saw him in Clue when I was 11 years old and decided right then and there that he was my future husband. When I met him after one of his performances in Monty Python’s Spamalot I just stood there beaming at him as my friend blurted out “she’s loved you since she was 11 and wants to marry you!” Thankfully he was very gracious and posed for a photo with me and signed an autograph. Any time my real husband sees the photo, he laughs and says “there’s you and your first husband.” :)
