And that’s a wrap! What did you think of the Oscars?

On the whole, this year’s show was very entertaining - indeed, one of the best in years. An overindulgent production number (the one about musicals) and overabundant montages aside, I thought producers Bill Condon and Laurence Mark did a fine job, particularly in the actual awards presentations. Having former winners pay tribute to the nominees made for some lovely moments.

And overall, Hugh Jackman made a very fine host. He wasn’t QUITE as good as he was on the Tonys, but he’s welcome to come back.

My favorite moment: Shirley MacLaine’s tribute to Anne Hathway. I’d like to see her in a musical. Close runner up: Danny Boyle bounding like Tigger on stage.

Least favorite moment: I love Baz Luhrmann, but that musicals production number was nothing more than a time-killer.

I don’t know yet what the ratings are, but if they’re low again, you missed a fun show - and you’re probably missing some great movies featured on the show too, I’ll wager. Check em out.

Addressing the naysayers: I guess we can say the Super Bowl is a waste of time too, since the athletes are all highly paid and there’s football on every sunday in the fall. Except, guess what? I think it’s fun. And I think the Oscars are fun.

The best Oscars I think I have ever watched.I loved the group of actors say something about each nominee. Also, loved the end where they showed movies for 2009. Great idea. All the speeches were great, although, Sean Penn should not have won for Best actor. He is an a—. Stuck on himself and didn’t even thank his wife for putting up with his crap. He is an idiot…

I thought the overall production of the Academy Awards was excellent this year. I really enjoyed the 40’s club motif with the orchestra on the stage. The stage design was phenomenal. My favorite features were the introductions of the nominees by the former winners, and as SRCputt pointed out, the dignity and civility of the ceremony that was reinstated by allowing the Oscar winners to complete their acceptance speeches and acknowledgements without being drowned out by the orchestra and rushed offstage. Bravo to the Academy for making this right!

Laura — DDL is making a movie right now. He’s a bit of a method actor and a recluse, so it could be he’s not quite able to step out of character at the moment. lol

I’m a musical geek, so I may be biased, but I loved Hugh Jackman as the host! His song and dance numbers were great, and I thought it classed up the show nicely. I also loved the way the former best actors/actresses/etc. honored the current nominees - I think they should continue that tradition. One question - where was Daniel Day Lewis? I thought it seemed a bit of a poor show for last year’s winner not to be there.

I just don’t watcha awards shows. They are too long and self-indulgent… It’s just an excuse for the Hollyweird types to honor each other and bash anyone who doesn’t agree with their politics…

I thoroughly enjoyed the show! I thought Hugh Jackman was great, and I really liked the way they used/invited previous winners to introduce the nominees for the actor/actress awards. One of the best Academy Awards shows in quite some time. I hope that Hugh is back next year!

Weird show congregated by even weirder people. Do you know what happened this week back in 1850, 158 years ago? California became a state. The state had no electricity. The state had no money. Almost everyone spoke Spanish. There were gunfights in the streets. So basically, it was just like California today, except the Women had real breasts and the men didn’t hold hands.

THEY DID NOT CUT OFF THE ACCEPTANCE SPEECHES! This has been my biggest pet peeves for years. Instead of people quickly reading a list of names, allowing the speeches to breathe allowed moments like Sean Penn’s tribute to Mickey Rourke and a magic trick at the end of the documetary acceptance speech. It allowed the show to breathe and was more fun to watch, and no one droned on for five minutes. I hope this trend continues in future years.
