Will you see Oliver Stone’s W.?
Judging by some poll numbers I received from Movietickets.com, the answer to that question is likely no. The site asked if moviegoers planned to see Oliver Stone’s biopic about our sitting president. The movie opens Friday.
The response looked something like the real Bush’s poll numbers - 63 percent said no, 37 percent said yes. Yeowch. That doesn’t bode well for opening weekend.
And I actually consider that a shame. Call if an educated guess, but I imagine most people are avoiding the movie because A) People think it’s an smear-hatchet job or B), Because they simply don’t like Bush.
I’m no fan of the man myself, but I’m still very curious about the movie. Oliver Stone’s movie’s are many things, but with the notable exception of Alexander, they’re not boring. Everything I’ve heard about the film says it’s not a smear job, but a probing attempt to understand how Bush came to be who he is. In that way, it’s not dissimilar to Stone’s Nixon, which attempted to explain that president without excusing him. I thought it was one of the best films of 1995.
Still, that movie met with public indifference, and it looks like W. is headed for a similar fate, which it may not deserve. Reviews so far have been positive, and Roger Ebert has 4-starred it. Even before those ratings came in, I was intrigued, so I’m in. (Sadly, it wasn’t screened locally.) I certainly consider W. a much more interesting prospect than this week’s other openers, Max Payne, The Secret Life of Bees and Sex Drive.
What do you say? Will you see W.? Why or why not?

Absolutley not!!! I would not give my hard earned and now, mostly because of Bush, my hard-to-come by money to a movie that wants to be funny about a man that has destroyed our country in the 8 years that he has been in office.By Kim S.

After seeing the trailer, I can’t say that I’m excited to see “W” in the least. Personally, I’m sick of Bush. I may see it on DVD once all the election hoopla concludes, but for right now it’s not even on my radar.
