Howard out, Cheadle in for ‘Iron Man 2’

Well, it seems I’ve come back from vacation to the news that there’s a big change in a certain eagerly anticipated sequel - Iron Man 2.

Seems that Terrence Howard is out and Don Cheadle is in to play Tony Stark’s best bud, Jim Rhoades, who apparently becomes a superhero down the line himself. Apparently, “financial differences” played a part in the recasting. Draw your own conclusions.

Honestly, I’m not too broken up about this news. Terrence Howard is a great actor, but his role was so limited in the first film that he couldn’t make it his own. Cheadle, who is at least as charismatic, will do more than fine in the role, I’m sure.

Some people are clucking that Howard will never be elevated to A-list status now, and I find that worry a little dubious. True, he hit something of a cold streak after his breakout in the likes of Crash and Hustle and Flow, but he’s a good enough actor that he should be able to get strong roles if not starring ones.

As for the movie, due out May 7, 2010, director Jon Favreau is back, and Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow are both “expected” to be - so I think the franchise is in good shape.

What do you think? Is this good news, bad news or neither?

Do you like Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard in 'Iron Man 2?'
  Yes.
  No.
  Not sure.

With the economy spiraling seemingly out of control, many people would do anything for a little treasure. On Saturday, Jan. 10, the Centerville-Washington Park District is attempting to give parkgoers just that. Grant Park, 501 Normandy Ridge Road in Centerville, is hosting an event called Cabin Fever Cache, offering a reason to get into the great outdoors despite cold temperatures. The event revolves around geocaching, a growing trend that is part time capsule, part treasure hunt. Think it sounds like something only a few nerdy, tree-hugging types might be into? Think again.
