Have you ever gotten a refund at the movies?

Got a real quick, and I hope, easy question for you guys today. This one appeared on IMDB’s daily poll recently, so I thought I’d ask:

Have you ever had such a bad movie-going experience (annoying crowds, sound/picture issues, etc.) that you have asked for a refund? And better yet, have you actually gotten it?

Whether you’ve gotten a refund or not, tell us this: What movies have been SO poisonous that you wanted your money back? I shall put forth my favorite object of scorn, the vile and putrid Bad Boys II. Thankfully, I didn’t pay for it, but by the end of that movie, I wanted to pocket the $130 million it took to make it, burn the negative AND douse Michael Bay in raw sewage so he could feel the way I felt watching that POS.

Y tu?

Well, I’ve never asked for a refund because a movie wasn’t good, because I don’t believe that is fair. The theatre just brings it to town for us to see - they don’t guarantee that we will like and they don’t tell us what to see, so I figure that’s my own bad. If they have technical difficulties or unruly patrons that they fail to control, then that is another matter. I got a refund when I watched the film Fantasia melt on screen before my eyes. I probably should have asked for one YEARS ago when some teenage girls were across the aisle from me carrying on. They seemed to have been drinking and one of them actually threw up all over the seat and the floor. Management did make them leave - but then I watched them just come and spray the mess - they made no effort to clean it up (I suppose that may have been difficult while the movie was running) or even mark the spot so to speak. Then I saw a latecomer come in and sit in it. Nice. Talk about a bad movie experience!!!

I’ve gotten refunds for bad movies, but also for bad behavior — if there are too many chatters or text-messagers, demand your money back.

The third film at my most recent triple feature was “Tropic Thunder”. Although I enjoyed the part of the film I saw, a woman walked in with a stroller 15 minutes after the film started with a toddler who ran amock in the theater. After about 10 mins of hearing “mommy mommy mommy” non-stop, I moved my seat. Five minutes later I left. I went to Guest Services and told them it was the worst film experience I’d had in years, and got a free pass to the movie of my choosing, which I’m saving. And this particular movieplex actually has babysitting services available for the cost of a ticket!

Opening night of The Dark Knight. After waiting an hour and a half to get tickets, the screen abruptly goes “dark” 2 hours into the movie. This coincides with Batman’s final confrontation with The Joker… it was absolutely terrible timing. Not only did they give me a refund… but they also gave me two free tickets for any movie i’d like. It still sucked because i had to wait another two days to see the ending!

Pulp Fiction, they gave me a ticket to another movie.

Alpha Dog. Need I say more? I adore JT, but that was the worst movie…

Wine & Dine: More local restaurants are offering wine tasting/dinner pairings [review]

Wine glasses

Some are searching for new customers. Others are looking for a test market for new appetizers or entrees. Others want customer feedback on which new wines to add to the wine list. Whatever their reasons, more restaurants in the Dayton area are using wine tastings and wine dinners to try to get new, fresh faces to cross their doorsteps. A decade ago, diners could easily count on one hand the number of restaurants that held regular wine events. Now, the number exceeds a dozen and is growing. More »
