What movies made you ecstatic with praise?

True to my word in my review Friday, I saw WALL-E a second and a third time. And I just might go a fourth time this week.

Yes, I think it’s THAT great. Each viewing only reminds me of that. You know you love a movie when even three-star reviews irritate you.

So with that in mind, I ask you: What movies have made you just absolutely flip, praising it to the skies at every turn? What movies have made you repeatedly say to people, “You’ve GOT to see this one!”

Let me know. It can be a movie you’ve seen in a theater or at home. And while you’re at it, tell me what you thought of WALL-E. I particularly liked this comment.

I have one of these almost every year. lol There Will Be Blood, particularly, had me shouting from the rooftops. I couldn’t get enough of that movie, and I implored everyone I knew to see it. Granted, I know the movie is not for everyone, but I guess I just wanted to use it as sort of a litmus test for sanity. Like, if people came back to me going “What the heck? That was horrid!” I would have no choice but to think they were crazy. ;) I liked SRC’s mention of A Little Princess. I absolutely adored both that movie and The Secret Garden and I have done my best to indoctrinate my children with both of them.

I highly praised “Thank You for Smoking” and it’s actually the only movie I’ve ever seen twice in theaters (because I’m a cheapskate who doesn’t get a lot out of the ‘theater experience’).

I’ve been thinking about this question for a couple of days. The film I probably did this the most for, about a decade ago, was A Little Princess. That was a film with amazing storytelling, with a wonderful theme of empowerment, and almost nobody saw it. It’s still just as good today.

This is a tough one for me there are several that may apply… I feel that way about Lord of the Rings series. It’s tough to choose which one, as I have seen them all over and over. I think the second one - Two Towers. I was telling everyone you have to rent the first and go see the second. It’s so worth it!! I tried to convince a friend who doesn’t like “fantasy” movies to throw that opinion out and see it for its depth and its amazing story and life comparisons. I will say WALL-E ranks up there though. Loved it! Told everyone they have to see it!! Can’t wait to own it!

Wine & Dine: More local restaurants are offering wine tasting/dinner pairings [review]

Wine glasses

Some are searching for new customers. Others are looking for a test market for new appetizers or entrees. Others want customer feedback on which new wines to add to the wine list. Whatever their reasons, more restaurants in the Dayton area are using wine tastings and wine dinners to try to get new, fresh faces to cross their doorsteps. A decade ago, diners could easily count on one hand the number of restaurants that held regular wine events. Now, the number exceeds a dozen and is growing. More »
