Movie presidential nominees needed
Since all the buzz in Ohio right now seems to be about Tuesday’s primary elections, I thought I’d jump the gun a little and skip right to the convention.
Not the real presidential conventions, mind you - I’ll let the politically-minded bloggers handle all that Obama-McCain-Clinton stuff. What I’m interested in is MOVIE presidents.
What I’d love to do for my post on Tuesday, primary day, is come up with a list of movie presidents and have you all vote on them in an online poll. But I need some nominees first. I have several candidates in mind, but I thought you could help point me to presidents that might escape my attention.
My plan is to break the nominees down into two groups: One for actors playing real-life presidents, and the other is for fictional presidents.
So, just to name a couple of my personal favorites, a top “real president” contender would be Raymond Massey’s inspiring portrayal of Abraham Lincoln in Abe Lincoln in Illinois. The first fictional president that leaps to my mind is Henry Fonda’s in Fail-Safe - he’s the kind of commander in chief that makes me think, “Why can’t our real ones be like that?”
A few parameters: This list is for presidents only, so senators like Mr. Smith and other political figures are not eligible. I’m saving them for another day. However, presidential candidates or doppelgangers (like Kevin Kline’s Dave) are eligible. I don’t normally dabble in TV on this blog, but I’ll open the nominees to TV presidents just to widen the field a little.
So with all that in mind, send me your presidential nominations in the comments below. From these, I’ll pick a group of candidates on which you can vote Tuesday, and then I’ll list more of my personal favorites.
Nominate away!

The obvious TV one for me is Jed Bartlet from The West Wing, but my vote actually is with the movie president Aaron Sorkin wrote: Andrew Shepherd from The American President.
