So what did you think of the Oscars?

Now that another Oscar night has come and gone, I come away feeling very satisfied with the winners, and with the telecast as a whole. The show had many clever and laugh out loud moments and moved along at a very good clip. Even the dreaded montages were fun this year.

This is quite an achievement, considering producer Gil Cates has slapped together some pretty BORING slogfests. Who knows, maybe in a perverse sort of way, the strike spurred everyone on to greater work. I thought Jon Stewart did much better his second time around.

Favorite winning moment: When the songwriters of “Once” won.

Favorite speech: Tilda Swinton, brilliantly improvising when she clearly didn’t expect to win.

Favorite unscripted moment: Stewart bringing Marketa Irglova back out to get her thank-yous in after she was unceremoniously cut off.

Best techie win: “The Bourne Ultimatum” for editing.

Biggest laugh: The wonderfully ridiculous montage of binocular/waking up from a nightmare shots.

Cloud nine moments: Whenever Amy Adams was on, of course! Which automatically makes her the Best Dressed!

For the record, I scored 13 out of 20 on my predictions, with which I am fairly well pleased. Among the top 6 categories, I missed only Best Actress; further down the line, I also dropped Art Direction, Costumes, Visual Effects and the two sound awards. I was hurt by the fact that I predicted Transformers would win all three of its categories and it got none. Up yours, Michael Bay! (Not his fault, really, I just like saying that.) But since I did very well above the line, and since I thought Bourne deserved to win for sound more than the robots, I’m feeling quite fine.

And hey, look, I got through the whole thing WITHOUT saying “Honest to blog!” Whoops!

So what did you think of the show? And the winners? Any unexpected surprises? Disappointments?

I’m sick that DDL won. What I have seen of his performance did not impress me. From what I saw all he did was yell and scream through most of the movie. Gee, didn’t Sean Penn win Best Actor for the same kind of role? I guess that they don’t base their decisions for this category on talent because if they did Johnny Depp or George Clooney would have won instead of DDL.

It was too stiff and ordinary. No real excitement for what I did see. I went to sleep.

I enjoyed it as always. I am glad the Cohen brothers won. I think everyone did well. I loved the John Travolta bit with his plane’s lights were on. Jon did a great job. No one will take Billy’s place in my heart. He’s the best ever!! But Jon did well and it was good. It wasn’t really exciting and there weren’t any over the top moments. It was a tad blaze. But for a week’s preparation it went well.

Jon Stewart is the first good host in a long time — he’s in the Bob Hope/Johnny Carson mold, which is right for this kind of thing. The “movie star” hosts are always awful with their costume changes and “look at me” stupidity. (Whoopi and Billy, I’m talking to you.)

I enjoyed the show. I thought Jon Stewart did a wonderful job, especially considering he had little time to prepare with additional writers. I thought most of the montages were confusing since they weren’t chronological. I did like the idea though. I noticed Miley Cyrus slide on her way to the podium. John Travolta did the same and mentioned it. When Nicole Kidman was going to the same podium, I was concerned we were going to see a prone pregnant presenter. I hated her necklace.

This was the first year in many that I did not watch at all. I am happy to hear that “Once” won Best Song…that was a great little movie and I loved the music!

Thought Stewart was fantastic! They need to bring him back again. Agree with the pacing of the show. I’m so very glad that “Once” won. Could have done without Tom Hanks’ political crap. Winners weren’t really a surprise, although I’m sorry DDL won. Perhaps I just didn’t get or didn’t like the performance, but I thought Depp or Clooney were better than he. No Country was the first of the nominees I saw and the best of the lot. Thought Diablo Cody’s speech was generous also.

I thought Jon Stewart was lousy. He wasn’t funny at all. I also thought his comments regarding all the best acors were biased….he barely mentioned Johnny Depp whose talent and creativity shines as brightly as Daniel Day-Lewis.The man SANG for God’s sake!!! He deserved to win!!!!!!!!!!! Also Nicole Kidman’s diamond necklace was fabulous!

The Coen Brothers from Minneapolis are cool dudes. Their movies are always oddly twisted and great on so many levels.

Great job by Stewart and the producers with such relatively little time to prepare. No “Oprah/Uma” moments, thank goodness. I laughed and got teary-eyed each several times. That’s all I can really hope for.

I was extremely happy that Once won for best song - and Marketa Irglova’s speech when Jon brought her back on was the best of the night in my opinion! Second favorite speech: Marion Cotillard, it was so french “thank you life, thank you love” or whatever she said, it was great. And I think Jon Stewart was hilarious this time - much better than last. I was at the Neon, best Oscar party in town! <3

It all went pretty much as expected with the winners and for those I didn’t expect, I’m not going to complain. Much. And I also thought the binocular/periscope/nightmare montage thing was hilarious. Stewart did a great job.
