Vince n’ Jen break up the mutants: Your reax
Many box-office watchers, myself included, are having their jaws wired shut after The Break-Up surprised everyone by not only doing very well, but by actually beating X-Men: The Last Stand at the box office this weekend.
Even Universal had expected the mutants to defeat their movie. But as Jennifer Aniston’s ex showed last year with Mr. and Mrs. Smith, interest in a hot couple can propel a movie to a better than expected opening. I attribute X-Men’s sharp drop to the fact that EVERYONE saw it last weekend, rather than bad word of mouth.
Speaking of which, my suspicion is that moviegoers’ romance with The Break-Up won’t last once word gets around that it’s not the cute comedy that was advertised, but a fairly sobering story about a couple falling out of love. Since the movie never really showed Vince and Jen falling IN love, however, I didn’t really care when they hit the skids.
But what did you think of the movie? What prompted you to see it? If you did see it, were you surprised at how serious it was? If you didn’t see it, do you intend to now, having heard it’s not as light and fun as the ads made it look?
