Great movie entrances and exits
Entertainment Weekly’s “Ask the Critic” forum has tackled a great question I’d like to co-opt.
What are the greatest entrances or exits by movie characters?
Here are a few of my favorites:
Clark Gable in Gone with the Wind: “Frankly my dear” … you know the rest.
Orson Welles in The Third Man and Citizen Kane: Welles’ appearance in the spotlight of The Third Man is justly famous, but I also like his extreme close-up on “Rosebud” — which I guess is an entrance and exit at the same time!
Judy Garland in Girl Crazy: Few have ever given Judy enough praise for her beauty. Even she didn’t.
But when she unexpectedly emerges from underneath a car and Mickey Rooney gives her a wolf whistle, I can scarcely blame him.
Grace Kelly in Rear Window: When her gorgeous visage fills the screen as she zeroes in on Jimmy Stewart for a luscious kiss, I melt every time.
Sean Connery in Dr. No: “Bond. James Bond.” ‘Nuff said.
Omar Sharif in Lawrence of Arabia: Certainly the longest entrance in cinema history.
Anthony Hopkins in The Silence of the Lambs: He doesn’t do much when we first see him except stand there and stare. But what a chilling stare it is.
Kevin Spacey in LA Confidential: I should only say that his exit was one of the few genuine jaw-droppers in recent years.
What others are there? I seem to be coming up short on recent entrances or exits by females. Anyone care to help me out here?

The tricky part is come up with a great open or close from a movie which you wouldn’t call great. How about Steven Seagal’s exit from Exective Decision?By Sir Critic

Great post idea! I was going to post the Grace Kelly one too, but I knew you would have had that one tops in your mind. :) I need to watch LA Confidental again, because I am not able to pull up in my mind the reference you are making, dang it!
