‘Dallas’ saved?

The IMDB’s celebrity news feed says that director Robert Luketic has bailed on directing the movie version of Dallas I blogged about earlier.

If Betty Thomas does replace him, as the item suggests, then I reverse my prediction of dread. Thomas also made The Brady Bunch Movie, which blindsided me with its hilarious satire.

If she can bring the same spirit of invention to Dallas, it just might work.

Other possible directors for Dallas: Michael Bay. Because if you’re going to trash everyone’s memory of the show, why not just blow everything up? Michael Caton-Jones. Because after Basic Instinct 2’s opening numbers, he might need to work (and it proves he’ll agree to make almost anything). Steven Soderbergh. Because J. Lo’s already been cast, and he actually got a great performance from her (in Out Of Sight). Patrick Duffy. Because he knows the material, and this project should be only a dream (like his character’s death was). Mike Nichols. Because Travolta’s already been cast, and he got Travolta’s last good performance from him (in Primary Colors). Frank Capra. Because he’s dead, and this project should be.
