Could somebody please tell me …

• Why Phil Dawson doesn’t get mentioned among the NFL’s elite kickers? Right now, he’s THE BEST. His 56-yard game winner for the Cleveland Browns proves it. The final: Browns 29, Bills 27.

• Why — when you hear the words “Wide Right” — you think of the Buffalo Bills? Once upon a time there was Scott Norwood. Now there’s Rian Lindell. Hey, Ri, about that 47-yarder you missed? You kicked it right where you aimed it, stud.

• Why University of Dayton basketball fans dislike Wright State University so much? WSU has bent over backwards trying to appease its cross-town rival, agreeing to play UD in every sport the two have in common. Yet UD refuses to play WSU in men’s basketball. (Pssst! I’d rather lose a hard-fought game against an outstanding Illinois State squad than beat a mediocre team such as Wofford.)

• Why the NFL plays by certain rules in the regular season that are different than the post season? I’d like to see Commissioner Roger Goodell spend 75 bucks for a ticket, $30 for parking, $20 on concessions and six hours at the yard — 3 tailgating, 3-plus in the stadium — and see how he feels driving away with a tie. Hey, Rog, I’d like ya to meet Bud. Ties are asinine.

• Why 53 players comprise an NFL active roster, yet only 45 are allowed to be dressed and activated for a game? Makes no sense.

hey chuck…about the wsu vs ud…you say ud fans dislike wsu..then you say…wsu…”bent over backwards”..trying to appease…ud..has nothing to gain..by playing wsu in basketball…and if they played today…ud would win the game….but lose in the larger picture….obviously you dont understand that….hey chuck…who would win if they played a football game tomorrow?….ud would win..because wsu has no football team..and they would be foolish to challenge them to a game….apply this to the basketball situation…and maybe you can understand…duh

Dear Confused: Were you breast fed or bottle fed? I said “every sport the 2 have in common.” When UD Arena flooded, WSU offered the Nutter Center to the Flyers. Also, back in the day when the 2 teams played one another in men’s basketball, they had a contract for a December game, but UD coach Oliver Purnell insisted the game get moved to a later date when Wisconsin transfer Darnell Hoskins became eligible after the first semester. WSU Athletic Director Mike Cusack “caved,” and moved the game. That’s 2 examples right there. UD has nothing to gain? Wrong! The Flyers would gain the respect of the community by giving fans what they deserve…The Gem City Jam. A cross-town bus ride would also save both teams money by cutting the cost of an expensive road trip. You place a $2 surcharge on tickets, and the extra cash goes to feeding the hungry in the Miami Valley. So please don’t tell me there’s nothing to gain. UD-WSU should be the first game played every season. Home and home. As for football, WSU doesn’t have it … yet. But it’s coming in our lifetime folks. And you can take that to the bank. Even though “Confused” is confused, bewitched, bothered & bewildered, I appreciate your reading my blog and responding to it. I pronounce you a Loyal Ludwig At Large reader. Have a good day. —Chick

Why you are so anti-Cleveland? You “predicted” they would lose last night. Being a Brown’s fan, I’m used to holding my breath and waiting for a win. I guess you think it sells your paper…maybe? I laugh at your comments, I’m not a Bengals hater, in fact, I’d rather them be in 2nd place behind the Browns in the division…alas, I can dream can’t i? Talk smack, look stupid, it’s ok…we’ve kinda come to expect it from you. Go Browns. Go Bengals…until you play the Browns…then you’re on your own.

The thing is Chuck, Dayton beat that “outstanding” ISU team last year sans Chris Wright in Normal. They also beat Pittsburgh and Louisville and will play Auburn and Marquette this season. Should they tell these BCS schools thanks but no thanks to play RPI anchor Wright State. P**s off.
