Ex-Bengal stars in Steelers’ victory

ANDRE FRAZIER, SON OF

EX-BENGAL GUY FRAZIER,

IS ANOTHER PLAYER THE

BENGALS LET GET AWAY

HE WASN’T GIVEN A FAIR SHOT IN

THE ‘NATI; WHO’S LAUGHIN’ NOW?

Please allow me to toss a few rose petals in the path of one Andre Frazier, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ unsung hero.

The third-year linebacker and special teams star wasn’t good enough to stick with the Cincinnati Bengals, who cut him on Sept. 18, 2007, after spending one calendar year in Cincinnati.

(YES, FOLKS, FRAZIER WAS BLAMED FOR JAMAL LEWIS’ 66-YARD TD RUN IN THE BENGALS’ 51-45 LOSS AT CLEVELAND IN WEEK 2 OF 2007 — HE GOT ‘KNIFED’ TWO DAYS AFTER THE GAME.)

The Steelers re-signed him two days later, on Sept. 20, and they’re awfully glad they did.

Yes, Andre is the son of former Bengals linebacker Guy Frazier.

Andre — the former University of Cincinnati star who won a Super Bowl ring for the Steelers in 2006 — blocked a Ryan Plackemeier punt late in the first half, and it triggered Pittsburgh’s 23-6 victory over the Washington Redskins on Monday night.

With the Steelers trailing, 6-3, Frazier stuffed Plackemeier’s punt. William Gay made the recovery. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger scored on a 1-yard sneak … and the Steelers dominated the remainder of the game.

Pittsburgh generated seven sacks and kept the Redskins out of the end zone.

“That’s our defense,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. “That’s why we don’t fear being aggressive. Our guys responded to the challenge.”

Another example of the inability of the Bengal’s coaching staff to evaluate players who are on their team. They either don’t get a chance - Sims the most recent example, it took an injury to Thorton - or they stay with a player too long after he is ineffective - Rudi Johnson regardless of how well his back ups were producing. You and fans could put together a pretty impressive list on both counts I am sure. That is why we still haven’t seen Shirley, who seemed like the most impressive defensive lineman in preseason to me. I mean, come on, Oren Harris shows up and immediately plays while Shirley languishes on the inactive list. Bad evaluators and bad player development. It has been a plague.

Chick, get over yourself. The first time you used the word “knifed” in reference to a player being released it had meaning, maybe even funny in a cruel sort of way. Now, you’re just trying to hard to be cool. Go with the normal terms like “cut”, “released”, etc.

I agree with not using the “sharper”, “edgier”, “pointed” words to describe the action taken. However, Chick does have a point. Player evaluation and development in Cincinnati is dreadful.

LUDWIG AT LARGE is my blog, and I’ll use “knifed” if I want to. And I’ll sign off by saying, “Make Love, Not War; Give Peace a Chance; and Strawberry Fields Forever,” when I want, too. Don’t like it? Tough.

Yeah, don’t mess with a militant pacifist like The Chickster. Not unless you want to get bloodied and bruised, that is.

The Chickster predicted that this Bengals team would win 10 games this season!

Anybody who has to cover the Bengals as a job can use any verbiage they want. Feel free to spew forth and emote Chick!
