Prediction: Bengals beat Jets, Steelers
I see something in Marvin Lewis’ eyes.
I hear something in Marvin Lewis’ voice.
Intensity … and … resolve.
I believe Sunday, Oct. 12, is the day the Cincinnati Bengals scratch out their first victory of 2008.
Brett Favre is a lean, mean INTERCEPTION throwin’ machine.
The final: Bengals 24, Jets 20.
And while I’m at it, I’ll just go ahead and say once the Bengals get this win, another will follow — quickly.
On Sunday, Oct. 19 at Paul Brown Stadium, the Bengals will defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers.
I know what loyal LUDWIG AT LARGE readers are thinking and saying:
“Chick, what R you smokin’?”
That’s fine. Go ahead & rip me if the Bengals lose to the Jets.
But feel free to praise me if the Bengals win.
And if the Bengals lose, I can only imagine what PBS will look like a week from Sunday.

From Keith in Cincinnati: “Chick, is it free liquor day at the paper? Back-to-back wins for the Bengals against teams each coming off the bye? I say Jets win 30-20 with Favre throwing 3 TD passes. If the Bengals are 0-6, PBS will look like Heinz Field next week, Steelers win going away.”

I love the optimism! That’s hard to come by in Bengalville nowadays. The offense has just been so terrible with the two and a half year absence of a running game that I don’t see it happening. Plus, many fans might say the defense is improved, but they haven’t been tested. Let’s see what happens when they have to hold a lead (maybe I should have written “if” they ever have a lead to hold)By Danny Farmer

Is the drunk fan available to run onto the field and snatch the ball away from Favre again? I figure the Bengals will somehow end up with 4-5 wins; just enough to make sure they draft one pick after the one player who could help them most has been taken. They might fluke out one of those wins against the Jets, but the Steelers will beat them senseless.By Jim

Fitzpatrick throws3 TD’s, and rushes for 68 yards and another TD. Chris Perry fumbles twice but neither are lost. Cedric Benson rushes 12 times for 79 yards and a TD. Ocho Cinco has his first 100-yard game. Leon Hall pick-six. Pat Sims plays and gets his first NFL sack. Bengals win a wild one 44-38. Thank you for reading this ridiculousness. I’m with Keith. You know, there used to be rumors that Jackie Gleason wasn’t really drinking coffee at the end of his TV shows. “How sweet it is!” … At this point, wouldn’t it be better if the Bengals finished 0-16? A full-scale fan revolt might not accomplish much, but it sure would be fun to watch. Maybe that is the new optimism.By We STINK

Chick, Chick, Chick. I have to say I’m a little shocked at your sudden optimism. What in the WORLD makes you think we’ll beat the Jets and the Steelers? That’s just crazy talk. It was neither intensity nor resolve in Lewis’ eyes. He was just intently thinking of more cliches to unpack while discussing our losing performance at the postgame conference. Or perhaps he was just hungry.
