Matt Lauer defends “Today” show from Kanye West tweets
Today Show hosts Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira don’t know what Kanye West is mad about.
The pair defended the interview tactic that sent hip hop artist Kanye West into a full on, crazed Twitter rant Tuesday.
During his interview Tuesday, West said he was manning up for mistakes he made and said he was sorry he pegged George Bush a racist.
In the mist of Hurricane Katrina, West famously told the world Bush didn’t care about black people.
In his new book, “Decision Points,” George Bush called the period the low point in his presidency. On Wednesday he said he appreciated West’s apology.
On Tuesday, West said he empathized with Bush because he himself was called a racist after taking the mic from Taylor Swift during the MTV music awards. West said that Beyonce deserved the honor Swift received.
West seemed cautious during most of the interview with Lauer, clearly not wanting to show emotion or say anything that could be taken the wrong way.
He became clearly irritated with the Today show ran footage of him taking the mic from Swift while he spoke.
“Please don’t let that happen again, it’s ridiculous,” West said.
Today, Lauer said it is standard practice to run footage of incidents while guest speak.
“There was nothing improper about it, nothing unusual about it,” Lauer said,
Vieira chimed in “doesn’t seem like much.”
Then with a slight grin, Lauer said the show looks forward to West’s Nov. 26 performance as part of its concert series.
The interview sent West in to a strange rant.
