Carrie Underwood to headline Country Concert

Country music superstar Carrie Underwood will be among the big names at County Concert 2011, the concert has confirmed.

Underwood was the top vote-getter in a fan survey conducted by the concert set for July 7, 8 and 9 at the Hickory Hills Lakes campground in Fort Loramie.

Paul Barhorst, one of the concert’s planners, said that more than 1,000 country music fans were surveyed. Underwood was the overwhelming number 1 pick.

“She has had more than 13 number one songs since 2005,” he said when asked why people picked Underwood. “She’s a great live performer and a beaming superstar across country music.”

The former American Idol winner will close the show Friday, July 8.

The multi-platinum selling singer-song writer is inducted into the Grand Ole Opry. Her hits include Jesus Take The Wheel, Undo it, All-American Girl and Cowboy Casanova.

Heading into its 31st year, Country Concert draws thousands of country music fans and has hosted some of the genre’s biggest names.

Barhorst said the concert plans to negotiate deals to bring big names in for Thursday and Saturday night’s shows. An announcement will be made soon.

Ticket to County Concert 2011 go on sale in late November. A three day general admission pass will cost $176. Single day admission will range from $79 to $89.

Used to be something I really looked forward to every year, absolutely enjoyed and had such a wonderful time. I went there to watch the show bottom line. It has become a place solely for the purpose of younger people who could careless and or not at all interested in the performers, to party and hook up. Used to be you could line up at the gates inside the grounds in hopes of securing a good seat. Then it went to where you couldn’t even enter the grounds when they opened the gates unless you had purchased a camping permit before hand. Mind you I did that even though I never camped just to assure that I did indeed get a good seat, not to mention taking vacation days and missing out on overtime in order to attend this event. There always was an area for reserved seats but every year the owners keep moving and expanding this area further and further out. It is now past where I used to be able to sit without a reservation. So therefore I no longer attend. It’s all about the $$$$$$. If I am going to be that far away……….well I might as well watch the entertainers on my TV for free since I am not a partier or looking for a hookup. So calling it a concert is really stretching the term quite a bit.
