Prosecutors plan to indict Michael Jackson’s doctor of manslaughter
The doctor suspected of prescribing dangerous drugs to The King of Pop may soon be in police custody.
Prosecutors are planning to seek an indictment of Conrad Murray on a charge of involuntary manslaughter, according to the Associated Press.
Murray would be prosecuted for gross negligence. Prosecutors will allege Murray’s treatment of Jackson was an extreme departure from the standard of care normally followed by physicians, the AP says.
Jackson’s death was ruled a homicide last year.
Murray, a cardiologist, has been the target of a manslaughter probe headed by Los Angeles police.
He is the doctor who unsuccessfully tried to revive Michael Jackson with CPR. The King of Pop died June 25.
He reportedly told agents he administered the drugs believed to have killed Jackson.
Forensic tests found the powerful anesthetic propofol in Jackson’s system along with two sedatives, the AP reports.
