Letterman apologizes to wife, staff, Sarah Palin: ‘I’ve got my work cut out for me’

David Letterman spent a good part of his show Monday, Oct. 5, discussing what he said he wouldn’t - the blackmailing plot that has seen a Dayton native charged with attempted first-degree grand larceny.

“I wasn’t going to talk about it anymore but it seems like people want to talk about it,” Letterman joked.

The talk show host said his staff has been hounded by media since he revealed last week that CBS News producer Robert J. “Joe” Halderman had attempted to blackmailed him.

Officials say the Dayton native threatened to reveal details of Letterman’s sexcapades with women who worked for Letterman.

Letterman apologized to his staffers and cleared up the record.

“No, I am not having sex with these women (current staffers).” he said. “Those episodes are in the past.”

The funnyman also expressed deep regret for the affect the revelations have had on his marriage.

“My wife Regina, she has been horribly hurt by my behavior,” Letterman said, noting that he is trying repair damage his tryst have caused. ” I tell you folks, I’ve got my work cut out for me.”

Regardless of the fallout, Letterman said he did not regret his decision to report Halderman’s threats to authorities.

“You can’t be victimized by criminal,” Letterman said. “I still fell like I did the right thing. And now, also cause what can it hurt, I’d like to apologize to the former governor of Alaska.”

What do you think? Letterman seemed sincere. Do you feel sorry for him?

I can’t say that it is all that shocking or surprising, but I don’t feel sorry for Letterman.

He didn’t commit adultery. All of his affairs were before he was married.

It is the same thing as adultery as they were a couple for more than 20 years before they got married - same thing!

Who is desparate enough to hop into bed with him? Was she visually impaired? I can think of few people who are more unattractive.

One cardinal rule to follow: Never, ever fool around at your job!! It will and has come back to bite him. Now CBS could be subjected to sexual harassment suites galore. Even if everything was with consent, there is the shadow that it was harassment and could get him in more trouble. He used very poor judgment.

Letterman is a CREEP! If it were a conservative, the media would not be able to get enough of this guy’s negative publicity. They would also call for CBS to fire this clown. He’ll be forgiven just like Clinton’s embarrassment with Lewinsky.

How could any self respecting woman ever have sex with that UGLY IDIOT???

Are you serious Dan? Letterman is not an elected official and this situation is no where close to what happened with Clinton. If anyone should fire him, that person should be his wife. Lots of employers carry on with their employees. Doesn’t make it right. Should they all lose their jobs too?

No, I don’t feel sorry for David Letterman, nothing to feel sorry for. He stood Manstyle, tall and honest, traits I value most. He refused to let some jerk extort monies from him. Now any more dealing about the subject should be between David and his wife. The public DOES NOT have a right to stand in judgement.

David Letterman is an ENTERTAINER. He does things to get attention. Good or bad, he’s currently the most talked about late night comedian. He might have different morals than most people, but he’s not a criminal. If you don’t like him, change the channel. You can be lulled to sleep by Conan the BOREbarian.

Letterman is right that you can’t allow yourself to be victimized by someone else’s behavior; they need to throw the book at the blackmailer. However, the only thing I believe he’s truly sorry about is that he got exposed for the fraud he is. Now watch these women successfully sue him for sexual harassment.

Oh yeah, it is OK for him to make negative comments about everyone else and murder them with his tongue. Live with the same woman 23 years—that is a marriage. Having sex with your staff, that IS adultery.

He stopped being funny a long time ago. Too much of his liberalism seeped into his act. We sure miss Johnny Carson. No one comes close.

Adultery or fornication is the same thing…. The Sixth Commandment: You shall not commit adultery. VI. Thou shalt not commit adultery if you are conservative or a Republican. Liberals and Democrats are hereby forgiven for all of their infidelity and immorality, but the careers of conservatives will be forever destroyed. The Sixth Commandment: You shall not commit adultery. What does this mean? We should fear and love God so that we lead a sexually pure and decent life in what we say and do, and husband and wife love and honor each other.

I used to like Dave’s sense of humor, but he has gone way left politically. His insulting attacks on Palin ( who he wishes was one of his conquests ) were way over the line.

Alum… although I understand your argument (which is that adultery and fornication are biblically-declared as sin, hence there is no difference), your post lacks the detail, clarity, and accuracy it needs to allow readers to understand your position. Adultery and fornication are NOT the same. Although both are considered sin in the Bible, your statement would be analogous to someone saying, humans and lemurs are the same (since they’re both primate mammals). One commits fornication if s/he is unmarried and yet has a sexual relationship with someone. One commits adultery if s/he is married and yet has a sexual relationship with someone to whom they are not married. The difference between these two acts is NOT subtle, and hence cannot logically be confused as the same thing. The Bible does emphasize the act of adultery as being more egregious than fornication, considering that an adulterer’s infidelity can easily destroy a biblically-declared union. In short, there is a distinction between the two acts which goes beyond mere semantics (the Bible certainly clearly makes such a distinction).

God works in mysterious ways. His behavior has come back to bite him in the a*s. Maybe now he will understand the hurt he put the Palin family through and others that he negatively comments about.

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Why worry about the speck in your brother’s eye and ignore the log in your own eye? Just some food for thought.

He didn’t commit a crime, attack or rape anyone.Even though they weren’t married he was in a relationship, but if his wife forgives him, that is all that matters.
