American beer brewers hopping mad (sort of) about ‘Beer Summit’ menu

All of the ills caused by America’s racist past will be healed tonight, July 30, during “Beer Summit 09.” Well, not exactly.

But three dudes - a president, a Harvard professor and a Cambridge, Mass. cop - will get together and do what dudes do best, drink brew and talk about long-standing tension between black people and police.

The beer summit has it critics to be sure. Among them are American beer brewers some what ticked their products won’t be on tap.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Genesee Brewery said they were pleased the president was breaking bread with beer, but said: “We just hope the next time the President has a beer, he chooses an American beer, made by American workers, and an American-owned brewery like Genesee.”

President Obama will have a low carb Bub Light, which was American born before going foreign.

Last year the company was bought by a Belgian-Brazilian company now known as Anseuser-Busch InBev NV.

Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. will drink down a Red Stripe from London-based Diageo PLC. Sgt. James Crowley said he’d prefer a Blue Moon. That brew is mostly owned by London-based SABMiller.

Obama called the fellas to the summit to bring an end to the controversy that has distracted attention away from his plans for a health insurance reform.

Obama was drawn to the middle of this mess during a press conference last week on that issue. During the press conference, he called Gates’ arrest stupid.

The professor was arrested for disorderly conduct after being questioned about a reported break in at his own home.

“Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof he was in own home,” Obama said during the press conference.

Who cares what beer they serve? I just wish the fact that Gates is a racist and is the one that instigated the issues at hand would finally be talked about instead of the cop who just did his job appropriately.

the cop is the racist one in this situation. he lied on his police report. The fact that they dropped the charges is an obvious admission of guilt.

How is the cop racist? the cop never stated nothing racist. The police report is a review or summary of what happened. He was arrested for being unruly; not for being black. Mr. gates started all this “racist” talk. Mr. Gates and the President owes the cop and his department an apology for the statements they made.

I wish Sgt. Crowley would have told them to stick it in their ear. If I were him, I would not be going. Like Britt Hume said the other night. “The next administration will be apologizing for Pres. Obama.”

Obama’s proposal to host the meeting “over a beer” strikes me as another attempt to look like a regular guy, a la Bill Clinton’s reference to self as “a Bubba”. I wonder too where the ubiiquitous critics are who usually complain about (well, anything) “promoting drinking”, “sending the wrong message”, et al.

You are the ones thats a racist. Just like most racist when its police and black, the black person is wrong. However, when its police and white, the police violated constitutional rights.

The police officer should not go. He should demand a REAL apology from BO and Gates.

Actually, Red Stripe was a Jamaican beer. It was purchased several years ago and now contract brewed outside of Jamaica.

Anyone else surprised that Obama is actually drinking beer? Seems to be more of a wine and cheese kind of guy. Yes, how stupid and camera ready is this? Obama messed up and thinks that by having a beer will solve the issue. Just another photo opp and very self serving. The real Obama is starting to show.

The real Obama started to show when he spoke on the topic. First he said that Gates (who IS a racist) was a friend and then that he didn’t have all the facts, but the police acted stupidly.

The cop should not be going-for the record, I’m black, and I think that the cop did his job. From what I can tell, the professor was being an a$$ then cried foul to save his image as a “high level” professor and BO buddy.

I thought maybe electing a black president would dissipate the racism thing. Apparently not, the country votes in a black president but everyone is still a racist.

The sad part about the article is that 10 years ago 95% of the beer consumed by americans was made by american owned companies, now only 5% of the beer consumed by americans is american made. Anhueser Busch is now owned by In-Bev, a Brazilian/Belgian company, Coors (makers of Blue Moon by the way), is now under Molson of Canada which is partners with Miller which is owned by South African Brewing. So I agree with Genessee, let’s get some American beer in the White House, and every other house for that matter. Support your local, regional, and American brewers and don’t let the let the big boys fool your with their “Kraft Beer”.

Obama and Gates should do a 7-day “ridealong” with Ofc. Crowley to fully experience the life of a law enforcement officer. This “teaching” experience would, hopefully, result in an attitude adjustment for Obama and Gates.

Racism,Really? The prof was just being an a-hole. If he was white he would just be an a-hole….but since he is black somehow race has to enter in. Regardless of what the prof said. Have you ever come home from a long trip only to be lock out of your house? It would suck. He said stuff he shouldn’t have. No big deal. A few of you out there should have your own beer summit and chill. life is too short.

The sad think about the election is that ACORN should be broken up for committing voter fraud and the president is a racist for trying to put a racist group (ACORN)in charge of everthing.

Oh, I think everyone pretty much agrees that there were mistakes on all parts. I blame the media for keeping this stupid thing alive. neither Crowley nor Gates has had any more to say and we should follow their lead. Drink the beer and end it!

Well, if you plan on having all of those folks you could have Jessie Jackson bless the beer before the discussion!
