MTV pulls the plug on TRL
The final episode of TRL is right around the corner, set to air in November, according to MTV. The two-hour special has yet to be scheduled, but save your Saturday afternoons. Two hours of a show dedicated to videos? MTV has lost its mind.
The show premiered in 1998 with Carson Daly as host, and helped break big acts such as Britney, Christina and Justin T. Daly left for his own talk show in 2003, and the revolving band of hosts hasn’t kept things all that fresh.
So. Who’s sad? You’ll be surprised: “I’m going to miss TRL,” Eminem, who graced the show’s Times Square studio many times over the years, said in a statement. “Where else will I be able to start feuds, defend my honor vigorously and act like an angry teenager on national TV? Oh wait … the VMAs!”
Starting in November, new and viewer-tested videos will continue to have a home on the Pete Wentz-hosted FNMTV, featuring a pretaped combo of videos and in-studio performances, which had a successful 15-episode run on Friday nights this summer
