Nicole Kidman tops “overpaid actors” list
Forbes is at it again, making people sad with their oh-so-judgmental rankings. This time, however, there’s actual math involved, and Nicole Kidman comes out on top — not a good place to be when talking about Hollywood’s most overpaid actors.
The magazine compiled a list of the top 10 overpaid celebrities by looking at each star’s past three movies and dividing their total earnings by the films’ gross income to get the actor’s payback figure.
In Forbes’ second annual list, Nicole Kidman was tops after earning $1 for every dollar she was paid, as compared to $8 last year. According to Forbes, “The Invasion” actually cost $2.68 for every dollar the actress was paid.
Second on the list was Jennifer Garner, whose recent movies “Catch and Release” and “The Kingdom” didn’t perform well at the box office. For “Catch and Release,” the movie earned 34 cents for every dollar Garner was paid.
Third on Forbes’ list was Kidman’s ex-husband, Tom Cruise. He returned $4 for every dollar he earned.
Cameron Diaz also returned $4 for every dollar she was paid. She was closely followed by Jennifer Lopez ($4.10), Jim Carrey ($4.11) and Nicolas Cage ($4.16). Rounding out the top 10 were Drew Barrymore ($4.38), Will Ferrell ($4.67) and Cate Blanchett ($4.97).
They’re all still doing a whole lot better than my money-market account. Sigh.
