Big News: Smug Brothers hook up with Squids Eye Records
Two weeks ago I gave mention to the Smug Brothers free digital EP series.
To quickly review: The Smug Brothers are a Dayton-based indie-pop band featuring Dayton rock veterans Don Thrasher (GBV, Swearing At Motorists), Kyle Melton (Montgomery Greene, Area Code), and Darryl Robbins (Peopleperson, Motel Beds). Every two weeks the band has been giving away a free digital EP consisting of 3 to 4 catchier-than-the-swine-flu pop songs. Volume 3 of the Fortune Rumors EP series was posted this week and can be downloaded here. http://fictionband08.blogspot.com
Now for the big news. Don Thrasher announced Tuesday that the band will be joining forces with local record label Squids Eye Records to release a Smug Brothers LP on vinyl and CD in August.
Squids Eye Records already has an accomplished roster of bands that includes the Sailing, Jesse Remnant, Grizzzzzy Bear, Human Reunion, and Cry Baby Genius (to name a few).
The Smug Brothers say “as big fans of the label, we couldn’t be happier to be part of Squids Eye.”
The band, who’s songs have already been featured on WOXY and WYSO, will be doing a on-air interview and acoustic performance on Wednesday (4/29/09) on 106.9 WWSU.
Tune it in.
