Sunday, ‘Music Independence Night’ at Canal Street

Mix Management, a locally-based production and booking agency, is sponsoring a free music showcase at Canal Street Tavern this Sunday, April 5th.

Mix is calling the showcase ‘Music Independence Night’ in order to celebrate independent artists in the area.

“I believe strongly in the grassroots independent artist business model, and strive to help artists run their music businesses in a way that will set the trend for the new music industry as we know it,” said Mix Management founder Jeremy Mix.

Mix has been working on Sunday’s event in cooperation with the Forecastle Music Festival, Encore Studios, and Canal Street Tavern.

“This night consists of 4 entities committed to the promotion of independent music (Canal Street Tavern, Forecastle Festival, Mix Management, Encore Studios) coming together for a free night of independent music showcasing and promotion,” said Mix.

The showcase will feature eight local Mix-artists as well as bands from the Forecastle Spring Tour. The bands and artists include Beau Bristow, Groove Doctor, Michael Boros, Abi Cook & Crew, David Story, The Hebrew Children, Kelly Campbell, and Todd Clemmer & the Take Back Kings. Two bands will be releasing albums at the event and giving away free copies.

The Forecastle Spring Tour features bands who will be playing the July music festival in Louisville, Kentucky. This year is the 8th Forecastle festival from July 10-12 and will feature 65 bands including headliners Widespread Panic, the Black Keys, and the Black Crows.

Encore Studios is celebrating 30 years as full service music studio in Dayton. From 4-7 on Sunday they will be holding a pre-party and open house so bands can see their newly renovated studios.

Mix, who is currently working with 16 artists to further their music careers, thinks that ‘Music Independence Night’ is a perfect chance for fans to hear good original music with no cover.

“I think that given the music industry climate, the collaboration of Mix, Forecastle, Encore, and Canal Street to throw a free showcase and free album release really holds it’s weight well,” said Mix.
