SXSW update, Tony Hotel cancels show
I just got some sad news. Dayton-based experimental rock pioneer Tony Hotel will not be making the trip to Austin, Texas this week as planned.
She had been scheduled to perform at this year’s South-By-Southwest festival in Austin, but due to a “lack of funds” she had to cancel her performance.
However, she did have some good news for fans.
“On the other hand, I have finished my cd, the music I have been working on and would have been playing at SXSW,” said Tony.
Other updates regarding Dayton and SXSW:
Ex-Dayton singer/songwriter Wil Cope is traveling from his new home in Nashville to Austin to play at the Roky Erickson Ice Cream Social on March 19th.
Just last week Cope finished recording his follow-up to 2008’s Dead Moon Motel. He recorded it with engineer Stephen Orsack in Nashville. The new album will be called 1977 Again and Cope said in a recent myspace.com blog that it was the “prettiest sounding thing” he’s ever recorded.
Cope will be coming back to Dayton on April 23rd at Canal Street Tavern.
Speaking of new records, the Lab Partners new disc is currently being mastered by Emmy Award winning sound engineer and composer Tim Berger.
The Dayton Space-rock band announced news of Berger’s involvement on Monday on www.LabPartners.net.
The band told me last month that they are scheduled to play the Dream Machine party at SXSW.
