Show of the week: Text Book Comittee

A new year means new features on the DDN local music blog.

Every Thursday I will announce my pick for the DDN local music blog ‘show of the week’.

This week was tough with Thee Pistol Whips at Oregon Express, Astro Fang at Blind Bob’s, and the Black Owls at Peach’s.

But, the first ‘show of the week’ for 2009 will be Nick Kizirnis and Text Book Committee at Canal Street Tavern on Saturday, January 17th.

Canal Street Tavern is hosting this show in celebration of the new Bob Pollard cd entitled The Crawling Distance due out in stores on Tuesday.

No, Bob Pollard will not be there, but Text Book Committee is the next best thing.

They are a Bob Pollard/GBV tribute band from Chicago who recently described to me their love for Bob Pollard.

“We have all been big Pollard/GBV fans for years,” said Andrew Cline. “Going to GBV shows was always our favorite social event, and we’d travel anytime they were playing within’ a 5 hour radius to see them.”

The band has played all over the Midwest and East Coast and has been very successful since their beginning shortly after GBV disbanded in 2005.

“This is something we do for fun among friends. But I think the fact that we have been offered so many nice opportunities to play all over is a reflection of how much people dig Pollard’s songs and like to hear them live,” said Cline.

Everyone will know the words and sing-along and that is why this show will be so fun.

The talented Nick Kizirnis will be there too. And, everyone loves Nick Kizirnis.

Visit www.myspace.com/textbookcommittee to hear the bands live recordings.
