Luxury Pushers host 15th Monster Hop

Dayton post-trash punk rock band the Luxury Pushers had a Summer to forget.

The band’s bass player and co-founder Eric Purtle and drummer Bryan LaBonte left the band back in June.

These departures began a chain reaction of show cancellations and the indefinite postponing of the band’s planned July tour.

But the show must go on for LXP founder, vocalists, guitarist, and Dayton rock icon Jamy Holliday.

This means the “longest running Halloween bash for punk rock and roll this side of Mars” (quote taken from www.luxurypushers.com) is going forth as planned.

“I’m currently retrofitting Luxury Pushers,” said Holliday. “But my band has always hosted the Monster Hop festivities and 2008 is technically no exception to the tradition.”

Technically not, but 2008 will be different for Holliday and LXP fans alike.

“For this show I’m being backed by Ontario’s Saigon Hookers for a set of LXP songs as well as a few tunes from my personal list of Rock and Roll faves,” said Holliday.

“Saigon Hookers will also play a set of their own and my old friend and fellow punk rock cockroach Mitch Mitchell is rounding out the bill. Mitch will be playing with an all-star lineup of his Terrifying Experience featuring my first ever, and favorite drummer period, Joe Presutti (Murder Your Darlings) and Gretta Smak (Accidently On Purpose),” Holliday added.

The 15th annual Monster Hop is happening Friday, October 31st, at Canal Street Tavern and will kick off at around 10 pm.

The event is $5 at the door.

As with past Monster Hop’s costumes are encouraged and as Jamy puts it “fun is mandated.”

I also found some great Luxury Pushers videos on YouTube.
