The Joose Box make DBP finals

Yes, I can admit when I am wrong.

I predicted a few weeks ago that Oxymoronatron would win the Dayton Band Playoffs at Canal Street Tavern.

However, despite a good effort, robot rockers Oxymoronatron lost to the piano-pop-rock band the Joose Box in the DBP semi-finals last Thursday.

Of course, I had to hear it from the two talented musicians that make up the Joose Box, Josh Eckley and Eric Geise.

“Sorry we had to beat your boys Oxymoronatron. We know you picked them to win it all this year but we just couldn’t help ourselves,” said the Joose Box in a e-mail yesterday.

Ok, so I deserved that a bit.

I will admit my Oxymoronatron miscalculation, but please allow me to also take credit for being the first to mention the Joose Box’s DBP debut back on June 2nd on this very blog.

The band is now set to perform in the 2008 Dayton Band Playoffs final round at Canal Street Tavern on September 20th.

I recently asked Eckley and Geise what it feels like to make the DBP finals?

“It feels good. We didn’t know what to expect going into the playoffs. We just thought it would be a great way to get our music out there and to be heard. Making the finals means a great deal to us given that there have been some really good bands in the competition this year,” said the Joose Box.

The duo, who will also be performing at the Dayton Music Fest on October 4th, will bring to the finals a Ben Folds meets Arctic Monkeys style and a following of dedicated and excited fans.

They credit their unique sound and their fans for getting the most number of votes in each round of the summer long competition.

“It is especially wild that we have accomplished all this and there are just two of us in The Joose Box. I guess it means that our piano and drums sound has really caught on with people and word has spread about us,” they said.

“The DBP have been a great experience and we definitely want to thank everyone who has come out to support us and hope that everyone can make it out to the finals,” they added.

The Joose Box will go up against the winner of the other DBP semi-final set for Thursday, September 4th. The other semi-final is between the funk/rock band Magic Jackson and the folk-blues-singer/songwriter Alec Delphenich Trio.

Visit www.canalstreettavern.com for club showtimes and information. Visit www.myspace.com/thejoosebox to hear samples and contact the band.

Get out to the finals on September 20th. Unlike most Presidential elections, in the DBP every vote counts.
