Punk rocker JJ Pearson coming back to Dayton

Courtesy of drumjokes.com I found some great drummer jokes that I would like to share.

Like, what do you call a drummer that breaks up with his girlfriend? Homeless.

Or, what’s the last thing a drummer says in a band? “Hey guys, why don’t we try one of my songs.”

I could go on, but ex-drummer turned talented power-pop/punk rock front-man from Indianapolis, JJ Pearson, has ruined all clever drummer jokes for me and the rest of the Midwest.

“I was always jealous of the guitar playing front-men who got to jump around and interact with the people,” said Pearson. “Drumming always made me feel by myself.”

Now Pearson writes the songs and fronts a band that plays English inspired melodic punk rock in the same vein as D.O.A and Generation X.

“My music is sort of powerpop that’s paid some dues,” said Pearson. “It is probably more to the liking of Undertones or Stiff Little Fingers than Motorhead.”

JJ Pearson is bringing his happy hardcore to Ohio for two dates this weekend. He will be at Canal Street Tavern on Saturday, March 1st, with Dayton’s own Luxury Pushers. The night before, Friday, February 29th, he will play at Bernie’s in Columbus.

Pearson is a native of Vancouver, Canada and now resides in Indianapolis. However, he is not a stranger to Dayton.

When Pearson was sixteen he joined Dayton’s hardcore/punk band Toxic Reasons. He replaced the band’s drummer who quit the band while they were on tour in Vancouver.

“Back in the summer of ‘81 i was a resident of Germantown, Ohio,” said Pearson. “I spent a lot of time at Second Time Around, that was Toxic Reasons world headquarters. We moved to San Francisco shortly after that.”
