Wil Cope lands in Nashville

On Friday, November 23rd, at Canal Street Tavern talented singer/songwriter Wil Cope performed his last show as a resident of Dayton.

Cope, who spent much of his musical career in Dayton, arrived in his new home of Nashville, Tennessee on Monday.

Earlier this Fall Cope released his latest record appropriately titled Farewell Patterns, and he has also recently finished a record he wrote and recorded with the Hiders front-man Billy Alletzhauser.

Cope leaves behind many local fans and friends who will miss him and his hard-livin’ folk fairytales and heartbreaking harmonica.

I received a note today from Cope explaining why he decided to make the move to Nashville, and here is what he said.

KN: Why did you move to Nashville?

WC: I came here mostly because I have people who live here who can help me out while I get on my feet. I also know quite a few people in the music community who can help get out in Nashville. I needed a change of scenery, traveling is really all I wanna do, hopefully I’ll be seeing other parts of the world soon.

KN: Will you ever return to Dayton?

WC: I’m sure I’ll come back to Dayton sometime to play a gig but I really have no intention of living in ohio again. Dayton’s an ok place, I’m just restless by nature, I don’t plan on living in Nashville forever. I wanna live in as many places as I can before I die. Hopefully somewhere tropical with outdoor showers, that is what a really want. Warm weather sun, ocean, and outdoor showers. So Nashville is just another stop along my way to wherever that is.

KN: Any last words for Dayton?

WC: My last words for Dayton are, I would live there again if it moves itself closer to the equator or the tropic of cancer, and installs some outdoor showers.
