Hawthorne Heights guitarist dies at 26
Hawthorne Heights guitarist Casey Calvert has died at the age of 26.
According to a press release from the band, Calvert passed away in his sleep sometime Friday night. The cause of death is still to be determined.
The Dayton-born post-punk/hardcore band made the following statement on their website regarding the passing of Calvert.
“Today is probably the worst day ever. It’s with our deepest regrets that we have to write this. Casey Calvert passed away in his sleep last night. We found out this afternoon before sound-check. We’ve spent the entire day trying to come to grips with this and figure out as much as possible.
At this time we’re not sure what exactly happened. Just last night he was joking around with everyone before he went to bed. We can say with absolute certainty that he was not doing anything illegal. Please, out of respect to Casey and his family, don’t contribute or succumb to any gossip you may hear. We don’t want his memory to be tainted in the least. Casey was our best friend. He was quirky and awesome and there will truly be no others like him! His loss is unexplainable. As soon as we know more we will let you know.”
Hawthore Heights, who spent the summer headlining Warp tour, was in Detroit on Friday and scheduled to play Saturday night in Washington DC.
Many local bands, musicians, and clubs will be affected by this news. Calvert and company began their careers in Dayton and the Calvert family still resides here.
My thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.
I will report more news as I learn it.

Casey’s family must be in such shock and grief at his tragic passing. While they proudly celebrated his phenomenal music success, they loved the many qualities that he possessed beyond musical talent. His passing is so unexpected that they are surely secluded in their privacy. Many family friends are joined in their shock and grief.
