Wil Cope’s cd release on Thursday
Waste a sick day on Friday, and get out to Canal Street Tavern on Thursday, October 11th, to see three of the best folk-rock acts/singers in Ohio.
This show is Dayton’s folk-prince and singer/songwriter Wil Cope’s cd release party. It is the perfect time of year for Cope to release a cd. His melancholic delivery and heart-ached harmonica go perfect with the cool fall air. In a recent myspace bulletin to fans Cope wrote “my cd drops and it’s a party, let’s drink and get loose.” Whatever you say Wil.
Also playing are the Hiders from Cincinnati. I hype these guys every time they come to town because of their perfectly composed moody and soulful folk-rock. I am not sure which members of the many, many piece band will show up on Thursday, but I do suspect that front man and Hiders creator Billy Alletzhauser will be behind the mic. The band’s 2006 release, entitled Valentine has earned them considerable attention from critics and college/public radio stations across the midwest.
The very tall and extremely talented Chris McCoy from Columbus will round out the line-up. I often hype this former Daytonion as well, and like the Hiders, McCoy never disappoints. McCoy, who usually performs with his band the Gospel, will be performing solo at Canal Street. He spent most of the summer touring the midwest and recently posted his entertaining tour diary on his myspace page (see road games).
McCoy, Cope, and the Hiders are teaming up on Friday night, October 12th, as well down at the Southgate House in Newport, Kentucky.
