Mona rumored to be close to major record deal
Mona’s front-man Nick Brown once told me over a cup of coffee that he would one day be “bigger than Bono.” I acknowledged his comment, but doubted the possibility that this guy sitting across the booth could be more famous than the most famous rock star in the world.
Well, maybe Brown and company could be on their way. Rumor is that the band flew out to Los Angeles last week to play a showcase for Capitol Records. I also heard that other major labels were interested in the piano-pop/rock three-piece and that the band will have a deal by Thanksgiving.
I wrote Nick Brown to ask him to confirm the rumors, but he did not respond.
So let the speculation continue.
Mona was the 2005 Dayton Band Playoffs champ and a major player in Dayton music for two years. The band relocated to Nashville last year and that is where they currently reside. The band is scheduled to be back in Dayton to play Canal Street Tavern in October.

In 20 years music critics will still cite Bob Pollard. Nick Brown will be long forgotten. Bigger than Bono…….that is laughable.By rambo

Well they can join the ranks of of Hawthorne Hieghts, another Dayton band undeserving of recognition. There are sooooo many more deserving than Mona. Oh well.By null

Mona writes great music, and with the exception of Nick, they are good guys. Nick certainly is very cocky, and kind of an awful person. He doesn’t deserve anything he’s getting.By jak

Yep, it’s all true with one correction. They were the 2004 Dayton Band playoff winners. I’m very close to Mona and have been following them for years. Rock on Mona! Put Dayton back on the map!
