The Amazing Hawkline band gear up for Yakuza Heart Attack

The most intriguing match-up of the Dayton Band Playoffs thus far is the Yakuza Heart Attack versus the Amazing Hawkline Band show this Wednesday, August 22nd at Canal Street Tavern.

I mean what could be better than a instrumental keyboard-pop band (Yakuza) and a progressive-country band with eight band members who thrive on spontaneity (AHB) battling head-to-head with the semi-finals on the line. Really, I cannot think of anything.

The winner will face the winner of the Umbrella Men versus the Alec Delphenich Trio playoff battle which is set for Thursday, August 23rd. The semi-final round will be held on September 2nd also at Canal Street Tavern.

Oh, the drama of the Dayton Band Playoffs.

I had a chance to ask the Amazing Hawkline Band a few questions regarding their playoff experience and this is what they said.

KN - So, how “Amazing” are you guys?

AHB - Amazing was never meant to describe how “good” we were. The Amazing was a circus reference, more of a sideshow zoo than a band. So I guess if we continue with that interpretation, then I’d say we are quite amazing.

KN - What is an Amazing Hawkline show like?

AHB - We have 8 members on stage and no room to move, but we do anyway, nonstop. I think our shows can be described as a fervid affair, lots of sweat and yelling and dancing. We enjoy playing them and I am pretty sure some people enjoy seeing them.

KN - What are you getting out of your playoff experience so far?

AHB - As a band we are finding out how well we can play together. We have tried new things, some good, some bad, but we are having a good time with each other all the same. I think we have played some of our best shows, visually and musically, and the confidence we have gained has made us all closer as a band and as friends.

KN - What happens after the playoffs?

AHB - We plan on doing some recording, but not in a studio or anything, the plan is to play most of it live, with limited overdubs to keep that natural feeling to it.  We are in a bit of a time crunch because almost every person in the band is going to a different school this year, so it may get pieced together starting this summer, then during christmas break and so-forth.

Amelia's Bistro, Bellbrook, restaurant review [review]

Call it comfort food, gourmet style. From crab raviolis with vanilla lobster sauce, to a hand-cut and brined pork chop served with a fig jam, to a simply "Big-Ass Cake" that's a chocolate lover's dream, Amelia's has the potential to become a destination restaurant — worth the drive to Bellbrook.
