Playoff update, the first semi-final is set
The first semi-final match-up is set in this summer’s Canal Street Tavern Dayton Band Playoffs.
On Wednesday, August 29th, jam-rockers the Sandals will take on indie-rock youngsters Audible Influence with the winner moving on to the finals set for mid-September.
The Sandals defeated In the Dark last Wednesday to advance to the semi’s. This is the second straight year they have made it to the semi-final round. Last year they tied for fourth overall in the DBP.
The Audible influence took out Paego Paego last Thursday and will face the Sandals as DBP rookies.
This show will be a must see for local music fans.
The Sandals have history and experience on their side, but the Audible Influence are the number one seed in the competition because they were the top vote getters overall after the first round.
Who will win? Click on the comments section and let me know who you think will make the finals.
To make your vote really count get to Canal Street Tavern for the playoffs and help decide who will be champ.
Dayton Band Playoff shows next week: Wednesday, August 22nd - Amazing Hawkline Band versus Yakuza Heart Attack. Thursday, August 23rd - the Umbrella Men versus Alec Delphenich Trio.

The Audible Influence will win without a doubt. It’s nice to see a local band who know how make music, and make music with a reason and a purpose. They are a stark contrast to the majority of local musicians who essentially just play instruments to their own liking and smiles on what ‘sounds good’ to their ears. TAI is quite an exception. They WILL win.By Sarah

TAI is the greatest band I have heard in quite a long time. I beleive they will win the entire competition. If they don’t it won’t be because they didn’t work hard. Goos luck to all the bands especially TAI.By Innocent Bystander

Get over it you guys the DBP are nothing more than a popularity contest and obviously TAI is more popular. They don’t ship people in on a bus like some have remarked at. They truly have a fan base so forget about talent cause its not about that in the first place. I think TAI has something that most bands do not, humility throug this entire competition they have remained humble and respectfull to the other bands even tho some have decided to take a stab or two at them. Convert TAI fans to Sandal fans, enough to change their vote? Highly unlikely. Most TAI fans are very respectful of others, and may even enjoy the Sandals, but they believe in these guys and support them 110%!By null

Magic? Let’s leave that to David Copperfield. If you want great musical talent, great lyrics, high energy and fun, keep watching The Audible Influence. Good name for the band - the instant fans created after first viewings of performances certainly have been influenced.By null

Lack of variety? Boring? You are talking about DPB at Canal Street, right? Wondered if Eli was talking about a different band! All you have to do is check out the diversity of the fans of TAI to see that this band is on it’s way somewhere. I guess even when TAI out-plays and draws the most votes, there will still be those die-hards that say “The Sandals should have won.” Next week sure will be fun, no matter what. I sure hope The Sandals pretty good. Gets pretty boring sitting through a band you don’t enjoy to hear the next set of one that you do.By Eli

The Audible Influence will win. The Sandals should win. TAI’s sound is somewhat boring - it’s the same Incubus-esque music that you hear all the time. This isn’t helped by the lack of variety in their shows. In the last round of the DBP, they played at least 4 covers and repeated a song in both of their sets. The Sandals, on the other hand, are awesome. The show I went to was intense - they played very complicated improv almost exclusively. I think the Sandals are more likely to convert TAI fans than vice versa.By Jimmy Breeze

Well, the Sandals are the better band. They are exponentially more talented and I truly believe they create more magic on stage. Where as the Audible Influence really does very little to…well…influence me…audibly….By batman

TAI WILL become one of the best bands out of the Dayton area. Their passion is felt every time you hear them. Very impressive.By DF4401

I fully believe The audible Influence will knock the sandals off next week. TAI has regularly getting 150-180 votes in the playoffs so far, whereas the sandals are bringing in around 80 or so…please correct me if i’m wrong. Not to mention the charisma and stage presence they bring to the table could be enough to sway even a few sandals fans, despite the difference in genre.By null

Who will win? Who SHOULD win is Audible Influence, and I say that after attending all 3 rounds. I have only heard the remaining band’s music on their websites. If they aren’t much better live, than I will have no difficulty casting my vote for Audible Indfluence.By JerryOctober
