Second Echo to release new ep on June 8th
Steve Albini is one of the most important and respected engineers and producers in the music Industry.
Albini’s credits include Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, Chevelle, Cheap Trick, the Breeders, and the Pixies.
For his latest project Albini invited Dayton-based rock band Second Echo to his studio in Chicago to record the band’s latest 5-song ep.
Second Echo’s post-grunge hard rock was a perfect fit for the Albini trademark style of big sounds with a raw live feel.
The finished ep, entitled Chosen Code, is proof of Second Echo’s musical maturity and that once again the Albini-ear succeeds in discovering new quality rock n’ roll.
Chosen Code begins with the guitar heavy and lyrically political song called F.A. The giant lungs of singer Casey Stickley set the tone for the entire upbeat ep as he melodically belts out the opening line of the disc “the world we want got lost in this feminine America.”
The band’s music is catchy and loud reminding me a bit of old Quicksand, but darker and heavier at times to easily fit into the trends of modern new-metal.
Stickley is a gifted singer and his voice melds well with the leads and chug-chug-chug guitar rifs beneath it.
On the last track of the disc, Whisper, Second Echo brings all of their strengths together at once. The track is heavy enough to crank up to ear-bleeding levels, but at the same time very easy to sing along with. However, listen with care because the hook is sure to get stuck in your head.
The band is hosting a cd release party for Chosen Code this Friday June 8th at Lights and Sirens bar in Englewood.
Second Echo, who is so proud of the new cd that they want everyone in town to have one, will give each person who comes through the door at Lights and Sirens a free copy of the disc.
With only a $6 cover and fellow Dayton hard rockers Orange Willard set to open, this show might just be to good of a deal to pass on.
