The Singles are proud to be a Midwest band
The power-pop/rock pride of Detroit, Michigan, the Singles, are making their way back to Dayton to play the Nite Owl this Friday, January 26th.
Some of you might remember their last Dayton visit back in May when the Singles played a crazy show at Elbo’s with the Professors.
These two fun-filled party rock bands are getting together again and my prediction is a wild night of loud guitars and cymbals held together by signature pop hooks.
But the three pieces that make up the Singles, Vince Frederick (guitar, vocals), Eric Bobak (bass), and Brian Thunders (drums), have been buried by progress since their last trip to the Valley.
In August the band recorded a new full length entitled Start Again that is due out this Spring. The album will be their 2nd full length and their follow-up to 2003’s Better than Before which received critic acclaim from Rolling Stone Magazine.
The band is currently selling 3-song teaser cds featuring tracks from the soon to be released new record. The buzz for Start Again is deafening as radio stations across the Midwest and East coast are adding the Singles to their rotation.
The Singles just finished a video for the demo’s title track song Hypnotized and you can watch it online on the band’s website, www.thesingles.us. The video is a must see because it has everything one would want in a music video; girls, guitars, and giraffes.
I got to chat with Vince about the coming year for the Singles and here is what he said.
KN - Will this be your second time in Dayton?
VF - Yea we had a great show last time and we are looking forward to playing with the Professors again, their a great band.
KN - Is the Dayton show the beginning of your tour?
VF - Well, kind of. Instead of one big tour we are taking mini vacations. This first time out we are hitting Dayton and Indy. Then in February we are going to hit the East Coast. It is sort of our strategy to focus on the Midwest and the East Coast with our shows in hopes to build a strong base here.
KN - Are you proud to be a Midwest band?
VF - Yea I am a Midwest guy and proud of it.
KN - Will you be playing stuff off the new record live?
VF - Yea over half of our set is songs off Start Again, which we hope to have for sale in April or May. The new stuff is rock n’ roll with some punk, a lot of guitars (we like guitars), and some hoe-down country.
KN - Can I get a copy of your Christmas single, Baby it’s Christmas you had posted on myspace.com/thesingles?
VF - Yea in fact we are giving the rest of those away. It was a fun limited edition release and anyone who wants one can have one. Just ask.
