The Professors supply the party
Call the PETA police! Richard Stockton, lead singer of the Professors, hit the stage at Canal Street Tavern Friday night (11/24) wearing a stylish fur coat with the collar popped, and a bare chest underneath. He violently swung the mic around and screamed lyrics praising girls he wants and how crazy those girls are. All the while he stirred up a party atmosphere within the darkness of the bar taking shots with the crowd and telling midget jokes (I laughed).
The band took advantage of their opening slot for Cinci’s, the Heartless Bastards, by playing a long set that was filled with dynamic energy. The band has perfected a 60’s - 70’s rock n’ roll throwback, organ driven sound that they call trashy, but the 150 plus fans in attendance Friday, might call genius.
Their set was filled with tracks off their new ep, Get Out Of My Head, and included an up-tempo version of Girl That I Want. The band also played early Professors hits like the crowd pleaser Boom, Boom, Boom.
I actually went to Canal Street to see the Professors (not the Heartless Bastards) and I do not think I was alone. After seeing the band steal the show back in October at the Dayton Music Festival, I could not wait to hear them play again on Friday. It was even worth the $10 cover.

I’m not denying the opening act put on a good show but the Heartless Bastards definitely deserved more than a one line mention. Instead of devoting the entire article to the Shirtless Bastards, a little equity would go a long way.
