The American Static ready for Gilly’s

Jason Himes started the Dayton indie-rock band, The American Static, two and a half years ago. Back then he had no intentions of extending the life of the band past just a studio project, but as the recordings were passed around and the name grew, Himes had no choice but to make The American Static a fully functional band.

Since then, however, the band’s lineup has been anything, but stable. Two years ago, Himes was joined by Dayton infamous singer/songwriter, Steven Gullet, and the two have been the only stability in the band until recently. The current lineup has been together for more than a year now and it is safe to say the lineup is final and complete.

That lineup, including Tod Wiedner, Johanna Taylor, Patrice Hall, Dan Stahl, Tim Pritchard, Brian Greaney, Himes, and Gullet, have just completed their second LP, entitled Love, Space, and Time. But, unfortunately for their fans, the production on the album is on hold due to finances.

The American Static will be playing the Dayton Music Fest this Saturday, October 7th. You can catch them at Gilly’s and while you’re there feel free to slip the band a few dollars so we all can enjoy the new American Static cd a little sooner.

Interview with Steven Gullet:

KN – This is the second year American Static has played the music fest, are you excited to participate again?

SG – Yea, last year was so cool. I had never seen so many people downtown for a local music show before.

KN – Which other bands, beside yourselves, are you looking forward to seeing at the fest?

SG – I want to check out a number of bands that I haven’t seen play yet. I would love to catch My Latex Brain.

KN – Tell me about the new cd and when we can expect it?

SG – All the recording is finished were just waiting to get it pressed. It’s like on layaway. We owe the pressing company some money and then we will release it. Expect a huge release show before the end of the year.

KN – Where did you record it?

SG – We spread the recording out among four studios, Refraze, The Lab, Team Evil, and Cybertechnics. It sounds really good and we are all really happy with it.

Amelia's Bistro, Bellbrook, restaurant review [review]

Call it comfort food, gourmet style. From crab raviolis with vanilla lobster sauce, to a hand-cut and brined pork chop served with a fig jam, to a simply "Big-Ass Cake" that's a chocolate lover's dream, Amelia's has the potential to become a destination restaurant — worth the drive to Bellbrook.
