Joe Anderl and the Universal Walkers gear up for the dayton music fest

Joe Anderl and the Universal Walkers are one of those bands that you hunt for and want to be the first of your friends to discover so that you can claim them as your own. They mix two acoustics, a bass, and a viola to reconcile a familiar sound with dark undertones and descriptive lyrics. Anderl’s vocals are on par with old Ryan Adams, but sung with a bleeding heart that will never run short of dark red blood.

Anderl is already a very accomplished musician. He got his start in the likeable Krusty Watch Guys, and then tried his hand at hardcore as the lead vocalists in the underground favorite, Waking Kills the Dream. After a hiatus living in Athens, Ohio and a short stint in The Search Party, Anderl formed this current project with friends Joanna Taylor, Mike Salyer and Aaron Hiser. Like Anderl, these three have past experience in accomplished projects, such as Dead Blue Sky and The American Static.

This dream-team of musicians have just released a brand new record this past April, entitled Love + Media. The record was released on Bettawreckonize Media, which is a Dayton based label run by Anderl and label mates Captain of Industry. The album was engineered by Patrick Himes, who is famous for his work on Ryan Adams Heartbreaker, and is proclaimed by the band as their “swan song album.

The band has been extremely busy touring in support of the new record. They have been traveling the states and have played nearly 50 shows this year alone. They show no signs of letting up either, as the band has future dates in Omaha, St. Louis, Chicago, Pittsburg, and New York. For now the band still calls Dayton home and will be apart of the second annual Dayton Music Fest on October 7th.

“We have really been trying to make ground in Dayton and abroad in support of the new record, Anderl said. “We can’t wait to play the Dayton Music Fest, and we are incredibly excited to be apart of it for the second year.

If you cannot wait until October to get a taste of Joe Anderl and the Universal Walkers, check them out this Saturday, August 19th at The Oregon Express with Wil Cope and Chris McCoy.
