This week in the dayton band playoffs
With the second round beginning Sunday, I want this blog to be your one stop for the latest playoff news. I will do my best to preview each week’s shows as well as attend and review as many performances as possible. As an involved fan your opinion matters and so making comments, either positive or negative, is encouraged. I am not some ego-maniac writer. I am open to criticism. My reviews are strictly my opinion, but I do try to be fair.
This Week Sunday, June 25: Yakuza Heart Attack vs. Mr. Metropolis I got a late start on my coverage and missed some of the early bands to play. So unfortunately I missed out on both these bands, but I can tell you what I know. I know that Yakuza Heart Attack has to be favored in this one. After finishing in 6th place overall they have also gathered a little buzz about them. They have been name dropped by other bands (The Sailing) and fans. Their my space site has them listed as a four-piece that sounds like “Japanese Gun Violence. That does sound interesting.
Wednesday, June 28: The Turkish Delights vs. A.V.O. This one should be close because only three spots separate these two bands in the final first round standings. However, 33 votes in the first round for A.V.O. are enough to turn heads and consider them contenders. They also have some people dropping their name after finishing 11th overall. The Turkish Delights are a wild card and could be a second round surprise. These two brothers make soberingly strange music and anything that stands out could steal some votes from anyone.
Thursday, June 29: G-Nome vs. Green Leaf I will again blame my late start for not catching either of these bands in person in the first round. On paper, however, this one looks like a lop sided victory for G-Nome. Finishing 5th overall, G-Nome nearly doubled the number of votes that Green Leaf acquired in the first round. But as I have seen in past years being the favorite means nothing. The band that does the most work outside of the club (promotion and such) usually advances.
