DP&L where are you??

Day Five of being powerless. We keep watching for utility trucks in my area. Five days have passed and no utility trucks have been seen yet.

There is a power line actually down in my road. I tried calling DP&L to report it. I was unable to do so. I was on my cell phone in the road looking at the wire. I called DP&L’s toll free number and was unable to report the problem because it only gave me two “voice activated” options: I could report a problem involving my account OR I could report a problem involving another account. Bizarre. I could not report this downed power line?

All I wanted to report was a deadly danger in the road and DP&L had no ability to accept this report into their system? Way bizarre.

I kept calling the number in an attempt to navigate to an actual human being. No luck with that either. Three times in a row when I rang the number I got a message that said that I had reached Florida Power and Light? Same number I had called to reach DP&L before? On the 4th try I got the DP&L message again.

I read this morning in the Dayton Daily News that DP&L still had 70,000+ customers without power 5 days after the “event.” Another article indicated that some DP&L customers were feeling frustrated about the situation.

I know that I’m small potatoes in this picture. My food spoilage problems, inability to bathe, and general state of darkness and depression are nothing when held up next to a Galveston or any other current devastation. Still, I’m mucho annoyed. Mucho.

Call me FRUSTRATED.

Vick Mickunas

Note: I just went by the downed line again. It is still in the road. Houses on one side of it have power. Houses on the other side do not. Is that power line in the road a hazard? One might imagine that it is? I will assume that I’m not the only person who has attempted to contact DP&L to notify them of this potential danger? Perhaps nobody has had any luck getting that info to them? I’ll presume that if DP&L knew about this particular power line that they would remove it from the roadway?

Hey, if you see an actual representative of DP&L do us all a favor, tell them that there is a downed power line in the road near the intersection of SR343 and Meredith Road in Greene County. The line is about 50 yards past the intersection on Meredith Road. Thank you.

Let’s hope that nobody is injured by this downed line.

Let DP&L go after Forster and his cabal for the money to pay for the repair to the system. They bilked the company out of millions and are laughing up their sleeves about the whole matter.

What an obnoxious jerky sarcastic comment to make. Vick, why would you post this ignorant comment from someone who clearly has power and/or works for a utility company? Author, Author? More like Moron, Moron.

If I were you, Vick, I’d dig through the archives and find one of those old Katrina letters and demand that FEMA send you one of those doggone trailers to park in your driveway so that you got someplace to to at least get a hot shower and have a place to keep your food cold and cook it. (Those refridgerators run on propane) Then I’d draft a long article blaming Bush, Chaney, and that whole crowd in Washington for even allowing Ike to get this far North. Why, Homeland Security and Immigration Control should have stopped him before he ever crossed the border. Then instead of complaining about not having any power or not being able to take a hot bath, those folks in Galveston and Houston wouldn’t be worried about not having a house to go back to. Yep, call FEMA and get that trailer, Vic; then you can take another week or two off from doing your job of writing book reviews.

The crews are working their tails off; but, DP&L’s ability to cope leaves much to be desired. In our area the wind snapped a pole - why? Because the pole was old and appeared dry rotted. It does appear they need to upgrade their infrastructure and reporting system as well. One DP&L officials only comment was I’ve never seen anything like this before! Not exactly a customer service oriented answer.

So you’re still using the same lame excuse for not putting up blog posts? Why when I was a young man we’d fly kites to get the electricity we needed to do our blogging. People went months at a time without bathing and no one thought anything odd about it. True, I’m guessing your Ben & Jerry’s has seen better days, but the moose jerky should see you through this crisis… . By the way, Bush bombed Russia yesterday, Todd Palin revealed that he has a vestigial second head, and the stock market went up 368 points today.

I am about to make fun of a situation which you do not necessarily think is fun after 5 days. I, who, have mostly had power since Sunday evening (there have been strange, intermittent outages of about 1-1/2 hours two or three times since Sunday) see a logical solution. If there is electric on one side of the wire and not on the other - move the wire so your domicile is on the electric side of the wire. And Chris, I’ll hope you keep your sense of humor. I may be in the minority, but I believe DP&L when the spokesperson says they work to get the most people up and running down to the single individuals. Again, I say this as I have all my normal creature comforts. I think what would be the worst would be not showering (besides the 3 little ones). There are places allowing showering - some Ys, for instance. Good luck.

What is frustrating is that you drive up and down dixie and the strip clubs have power. Come on. I have 3 small children that do not understand what is going on, and why they can not have a warm bath. But if you want to go have a good time with your buddies you can sure go and do that. THANK YOU VERY MUCH DPL!! KUDDOS ON YOUR FAMILY VALUES!!!
