In my opinion, the best place for seafood isn’t in the Miami Valley. You’ve gotta drive a little bit to either the streets of West Chester or to the Newport. Mitchell’s Seafood Restaurant has the freshest fish with the best daily selection. The menu changes daily with the items that are flown in every single day. My husband and I are big fans of the restaurant, especially their 7-layer carrot cake!!! I HIGHLY recommend them for a night date night, or a place to celebrate a special occasion. If you call ahead, you can get personalized, free menus for your party, and you will get a free appetizer coupon for your next visit. We are fans for LIFE!

One of the best seafood places around is off the I-275 Interstate toward IN, Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen has New Orleans style seafood that is to die for. I have never had a bad meal there and know several other’s that know about this hidden gem. It is truely the best seafood around and very large quanties are given. We always need to bring items home. I highly recommend the alligator with the creole dipping sauce.

Chad and Kelly need a map…Dayton is the subject, want me to tell you about a New Orleans place? The question was DAYTON. My vote is Sweeny’s in Centerville.

I have yet to eat at a seafood restaurant that even compares to the food I’ve eaten at Sweeney’s Seafood in Centerville, OH… I could really go for some calamari or blackened tilapia alfredo right now, YUM! its a shame i live in TN.

When you say fresh seafood there is only one word “Sweeney’s” in Centerville …it’s worth the trip.

If you want good fresh seafood prepared correctly EVERY time the ONLY place to go is Jay’s! If you want your fish slathered in some rdiculous over-bearing sauce, go elsewhere. Jay’s is unparalleled.

Jay’s Seafood without a doubt is the class act or cream of the crop in Dayton,Ohio when it comes to great Seafood food and outstanding service. I have never been disappointed when dining there for business or taking the family out for a treat on weekends. Keep the great food coming along with the amazing service and we’ll keep coming back for more!

I was just looking up on the internet Sweeney’s hours for this evening and I found this. I’m VERY pleased to see Sweeney’s is once again in the running for best seafood! I’m meeting some friends there this evening after work and have enjoyed introducing this restaurant to many of my friends. I really enjoy the well prepared delicious food and how friendly the staff is. The bartender IS GREAT! He always has suggestion and has tried new things and loved them! It really is a great place, Good luck Sweeney’s I’m voting for you!!!

Have been going to Sweeney’s for years. Have tried all the rest and while they are good, I find the variety at Sweeney’s the best. Doug in the bar is the best!

Sweeney’s seafood is definitely the best. I married a guy from Boston, who was a seafood snob. I have learned to recognize the best.

I do like Sweeney’s atmosphere, it reminds me of a little Rhode Island restaurant. However, the last time I ate there my shrimp was overcooked and my oysters were dirty, it was not good. I haven’t been to the other local non-chain restaurants so I will sit this vote out, but I do hope the people of Dayton pick a local, original restaurant.

Sweeney’s always hits a homerun….Doug, the best bartender, excellent waitstaff and DELICIOUS SEAFOOD! Never, in all of my visits, have they deferred from these qualities…Keep it up and I’ll keep coming in.

Sweeney’s gets my vote for best combination of food quality, bar service (Doug) and food service (especially Nikki, April and Mike) in Dayton. I’m not a fan of chains, and think McCormick & Schmick’s is badly over priced and their drink prices are plainly ridiculous. Jay’s is good, especially the fresh lobster, and I go there occasionally, but Sweeney’s tops them all and I ‘m there almost every week.

Sweeney’s keeps the prices “reasonable” for what you get. Atmosphere isn’t bad. Love the aquariums. Service is not bad. Maybe not top notch, but for the price and considering we’re far from the Ocean, not bad.

My opinion is that most of these commenters are friends and family of the Sweeney’s owner. We stopped going there a few years ago because the quality and service just weren’t what it had been. Maybe it has improved since? Kelly’s point is a good one. Casting a vote in this category isn’t easy because there just aren’t really great choices in the Dayton area. The BEST seafood within driving distance is Mitchell’s Fish Market. Worth the drive for a fresh seafood meal that was so amazing that I cried a little. Customer service and personal touches there are icing on the cake. Definitely try it.

The best seafood restaurant in Dayton is by far the Oakwood Club. The walleye is the best in the state of Ohio!

if you read thru some of the comments…these ohio hillbillies dont even know what seafood is…..what a joke….here is a hint…it does not come from a man-made lake…any seafood sold in this area is garbage…it is not fresh…it was not caught the day it was prepared…most hillbillies in this area wouldnt know what fresh seafood was…even if it was right in front…plated up

From start to finish I enjoy a bisit to Sweeney’s. When I walk in Doug remembers my preferred drink order, the food is always good, especially my favorite, the seafood stew, and I like the way the owner, Ron, is involved and personally interested in our experience.

Sweeney’s is humbled and extremely grateful for all the support. Please remember to support all our wonderful independent restaurants. Sweeney’s is honored to be in the company of such a great restaurant as Jay’s.
