I absolutely love Submarine House. They have a great variety of delicious subs and other food items to suit everyone’s taste. The only bad thing I can say about them is that they don’t have enough locations.

Submarine House has the best subs in town…. or any town. Have it with the “works” and it will change your life!

I like to stick with Subbies because I am never disappointed. Their subs are average and therefore you know what you are going to get. I hate going to a sub place and getting a great sub and then the next time being disappointed. Only the mediocre are always at their best. Subbies is mediocre and I like it that way!

the original sub house name says it all. since 1974 on brown street the sub house has led the way with great subs. my favorite is the chicken cheese steak.

I tried Submarine House because it won last year. I couldn’t stomach it. My turkey sub tasted like fish. It was just gross. I prefer Jersey Mikes or Mamma’s because the ingredients are fresh, cut right in front of you. YUM!

Clearly none of you have ever eaten a sandwich from DiSalvo’s Deli in Kettering. OMG….best ever! The house dressing is fantastic and just puts their sandwiches in another league.

Penn Station’s Italian sub is the best ever! The bread makes the sandwich, but all the fresh ingredients do the rest. They are a little pricey, but clearly worth it!

My vote is for Penn Station. The quality of meat that they use on the subs I feel is better then any that you find around town! The crew are always careful to make your sub exactly as you want with no oops!

In the past I LOVED penn station, NOT ANYMORE the people they have staffed their stores with are rude and can not make a correct sandwich to save their lives. At this point I’d rather save my money and eat a bologna sandwich.

milanos used to be the best in town but i’d have to say prnn station has the edge now.i’ve been in dayton all my life and i knew the original owner of milanos and he would die at the quality of their subs.bread has definately has changed!

I eat at Penn Station in Springboro at least once a week for several years now. Their staff is friendly, and their food is always good.

Sub House is very good. For a chain, Penn Station is good too (puts Subway to shame). For the life of me, I can’t see why Milano’s subs are so bad (the pizza and other stuff are fine), when subs are their signature item.

I used to love Submarine House subs. However, the last one I had at the Centerville store was terrible. I’m afraid to go again.

If you want truly delicious subs, you must try Domsitz Deli in Vandalia. Hands down the best around! Their 6 inch subs are actually larger than anybody else’s 12 inchers because Domsitz knows how to make a sub! No skimpin’ at this place! Try ‘em! You WON’T be disappointed.

The sub at Hoagie’s is the best in town. Italian Beef at Quig’s is phenominal. The Cheese Steak at Submarine House is the bomb!!! Milano’s has gone down hill but used to be in the top 3 when you could buy a whole sub from them under $5.

We love the Penn-Station Club and Chicken Cordon blue subs prepared at the Springfield location ( # 1 Penn-Station in the country). Subs are fresh, hot, delicous and the employees treat you right. We eat there 1-2 times a week. Great sub great personnel. Mike & Kay

In my many years of eating many subs, once I found Penn Station, I stopped trying any others. No one can beat their Philly Cheesesteak or their Reuben…I’ve tried others and no one even comes close. My brother in-law comes from Ky. and goes to Penn Station first thing…THE BEST

As an East Coaster, it’s clear to me that I’m definitely in the midwest, anytime Penn Station wins a taste test. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good. But not what true subs are meant to be. And don’t let that who “East Coast Subs” thing fool ya.

I’m sorry Super Subby’s is the best. The service is good and boy do they pound on the meat.

By Jersey Mike's fan

July 14, 2010 9:49 AM | Link to this

Jersey Mike’s in Centerville beats them all as far as best Submarine sandwich. Order a Giant #13 “Original Italian” It’s stacked with Provolone cheese, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami and pepperoni (all sliced fresh right in front of you)… then say “make it Mike’s way” and they pile on the lettuce, tomato and onion. Topped off with oregano, oil and vinegar. They have been around since 1956, find out why!

Wow, what a tough call. Sub House has long had the #1 CheeseSteak IMO. Ron’s Italian Steak can’t be beat. Subway has the cold cut sub like we used to get at SS Kresge’s for fifty cents! Penn Station’s subs are all around great, but some locations are better than others. I also like Cassano’s Original Sub (been getting those for over 50 years). I’ve never gotten a sub I liked at Quizno’s. I haven’t tried some of the others listed.

No question…other’s shouldn’t even be in the competition. Submarine House was #1, is #1 and always will be #1. Not only great cheese steaks, but italian cheese steaks, italian subs, fish sandwiches…they’re all good!

CHRISTY’S in Vandalia blows all of these away. You can’t beat the quality and quantity (16”) They use real steak unlike the soy products found at sub house and others. The marinated chicken cheesesteak rocks as well. I’ve been a fan for years.

All you voting for Penn Station probably think Olive garen is good Italian. While Penn Station isn’t the worst I’ve ever had, it is nowhere near the best. Try Mama DiSalvos Deli in Kettering and you will never eat a sub from anywhere else again.

Penn Station? Really? No chain restaurant of any kind can ever macth locally owned ones, who buy fresh produce and do not pull the ingredients from a metal pound containing whatever item that has been in there for God knows how many days. Support locals, Mama Disalvo’s, Main Street Deli,Domsita, Christy’s..Milano’s has just outgrown its abaility to be fresh and tasty anymore.

By Pragmatic

July 15, 2010 3:39 PM | Link to this

my mouth used to water just thinking about Milano’s when they had crusty sub rolls…not anymore with the bready rolls you can get anywhere else.

By tina

July 15, 2010 8:49 PM | Link to this

The problem with the Milano’s may be that you are not going to the one on North Dixie all of the others are franchises that were sold to a company, the one on North Dixie is owned by the original owners. They are the only location that is not a franchise and is the original owners

7/17/2010 My nomination for best SUB is Submarine House 1137 Brown Street near UD. Their Italian sub with extra V&O on a toasted roll/bun. I’ve tried the others but I still think this location is the BEST. Polite and easy service is a plus also.

I love how people buy right into the commercialization of America. Penn Station?? Sorry, it’s a chain, and so so at best. I prefer to go for mom and pop shops, like MILANO’S?? It’s the BEST sub in Dayton, and frankly the state. I live in Columbus and have yet to find something to compare to the Atlantic City Italian Sub at Milano’s.

Hoagie’s on North Dixie. Go there every chance I get and I live in Preble county! We have a good place out here on S.R.725 called Momma Mac’s. They are awesome too. Great pizza as well.
