Musica! bids farewell to director Jones

The vocal ensemble Musica! will bid farewell to artistic director Robert Jones with season-ending performances at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21 and 22, in Dayton.

The program both days will include selections from Broadway musicals “Ragtime” and “Phantom of the Opera,” an excerpt from the Bizet opera “Carmen,” a jazz set featuring the Brian Cashwell Trio and new arrangements of spirituals.

Saturday’s concert will be at the Salvation Army/Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center, 1000 N. Keowee St. Sunday’s performance will be at the Dayton Art Institute, 456 Belmonte Park N.

Versatility and collaboration have been among the group’s hallmarks since Jones took over as director in 1999.

The concerts will launch the search for a new director. The 2011-12 season will also be announced. A reception for Jones will be held following Sunday’s concert at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, next door to the DAI.

Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. Call (937) 369-5486 or go to www.MusicaDayton.org.
