Orchestra slates youth competition
The Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra’s annual Young Musicians’ Concerto Competition will be April 16 at Sinclair Community College.
Eligible students must live in Butler, Champaign, Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, Shelby or Warren County, be in grades 10 through 12 during the 2011-12 academic year and belong to a high school music group (band or orchestra). Exceptions are allowed for piano students in schools that have no music programs.
Auditions will be held for piano, strings, woodwinds and brass. Selections must be compositions for solo instrument and orchestra.
Three finalists will receive cash prizes and the winner will perform with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra at a Young People’s concert during the 2011-12 season. Area musicians will serve as judges. Orchestra music director Neal Gittleman will judge the finals.
