Russo named to ballet post
Dayton Ballet director Dermot Burke announced three changes to the company’s artistic and educational staff on Wednesday, Aug. 25.
Karen Russo Burke was named full-time ballet mistress, Abigail Beam was appointed director of the pre-professional Dayton Ballet II, senior company, and Megan Reckamp was named director of Dayton Ballet II, junior company.
Russo Burke, a choreographer whose works for the company have included “A Streetcar Named Desire,” was previously co-ballet mistress with Sharon Lancaster Neumeister. She will create a premiere, “Eve of Frankenstein,” for the season-opening concert Oct. 28-30 at the Victoria Theatre.
Beam has performed with the company and taught in its school. Reckamp is a dance graduate of Wright State University and has taught in the Dayton Ballet school.
Duties of a ballet mistress generally include teaching the daily company ballet class, overseeing rehearsals for new works and maintaining the company’s repertoire. For more information about DB II or Dayton Ballet, visit www.daytonballet.org.
