why the negativity…it is a free concert? We should be glad something positive is happening in the area.

@ Truth Hurts I totally agree with you. Sounds to me like someone’s band didn’t get to play at The Greene or maybe he was turned down by the Marketing Director. Awwww..Huh should go drink some more Haterade. The show is going to be GREAT!

um, that’s Scott Miller, not Steve. i love the Gin Blossoms, too bad it’s at The Greene. if it were at Riverscape, I would go, but I don’t support cardboard imitations of my city.

Scott ROCKS on the guitar regardless of his connections… at the end of the day, connections are what get you places people! especially when you need to escape a cardboard box!

Wow. If The Greene really was a cardboard imitation of Dayton there would be closed businesses on every corner, people begging for change and don’t forget the fact that your chances of getting shot in Dayton are probably 1 in 50. I live in Dayton too. To say The Greene is a cardboard imitation, that is ridiculous. At least I feel safe walking around at The Greene.

Hey “Z” Ill take my cardboad imitation anyday if it means keeping the lead out of my body. I think your just a tad jealous because you cant get out to The Greene. RTA does not stop here. At least the Greenes claim to fame isnt a fountian designed to shoot a few million gallons of fresh water into a nasty sewage filled river. Oh, but that doesnt even work right. Get a clue.

Not a musician. A former (my choice) employee of the The Greene who has seen the marketing director turn her position into her own personal party. Nothing against Scott E. or even Steve Miller, for that matter. We all know about Karma.

Ah the internet…where miserable people actually take time to post unnecessary comments and take personal shots at people doing good, positive, FREE things for the community…(“haters”) CHEER UP and go enjoy yourself at this show! :-)

Don’t you just love it when a former ‘big’ act loses most of it’s members from their days of success, then replace them and tour using the old name. This version of the Gin Blossoms is pretty much a tribute band. But it is free, and about as good as it gets for Dayton…

@sad: yeah because i’m sure you are going to reeeeeally miss some of those signature standout bass and drum licks in the music. it couldn’t possibly sound like the same band could it??? ridiculous comment.

I can see you’ve never heard of Doug Hopkins. You might want to look him up… Either way, it doesn’t change the facts of what I said.

By Yep

Like it or not, ‘sad’ is right about Doug Hopkins. Doug was the Gin Blossoms, and they haven’t amounted to anything since his death. But it is free, and worth every penny, even if it is a cover/tribute show.

yes dear, he got fired and offed himself and they’ve done fine moving forward without him. he never even toured with them for the first album. Scott Johnson did and is still in the band. bottom line…the band’s SOUND is intact.

Well ‘dear’, I guess that depends on how you define ‘done fine’. No one has cared about the Gin Blossoms since the mid-90s, and their follow up to New Miserable Experience and everything since has been very sub-par by comparison. But obviously if they’re still popular enough to play free shows at small-town malls, they’re doing quite well indeed. But by all means, continue to make this show into more than it actually is…

“fine” = a top ten platinum album immediately after NME, successful stadium tours and singles etc etc. just bc the show is free doesn’t mean they aren’t gettin paid well. i guess you are only a doug hopkins fan (massive career there), not a fan of the band and their songs and their sound. few bands ever top their initial smash release…so what.

Many bands had (initially) strong sales based on a previous major hit release, but it was lackluster in comparison and sank accordingly. If you think they had something to offer after NME, good for you, most would disagree and they have the album/ticket sales, or lack thereof, to back that up. I’m not really much of a Blossoms or Hopkins fan, I just recognize that he was what made the band successful and they’d pretty much died when he did… Now if they could get the Refreshments back together and at the Greene for free, I might be on board with that.

In springfield you can see the Eagles cover band for free, and get mugged. At least we are getting opportunities for entertainment. The greene is where I will be tonight!!
