Classic Swayze at Dixie Drive-In this weekend

The Dixie Twin Drive-In Theatre plans to honor Patrick Swayze with a three-night showing of two of his best-known movies.

“Ghost” and “Road House” will be featured on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, Sept. 25-27.

At 8 p.m., the beloved movie, “Ghost” featuring Swayze, Demi Moore and the sexiest pottery wheel in screen history will be shown.

But at 10:20 p.m., the more rowdy “Road House” will be shown, highlighted by the classic line, “Pain don’t hurt.”

The drive-in owners will donate $1 of every adult ticket to the American Cancer Society in Swayze’s honor. Admission for those 13 and older is $7.50.

“We were saddened to hear of the passing of Patrick Swayze. We’ve admired his work and wanted to find a way to honor him”, stated Ryan Levin, Vice-President of Levin Service Company, owners of the drive-in. “The best way we can think of to honor his name and talent is to donate a portion of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society.”

But if classic movies from a silver screen icon aren’t your thing, the drive-in also is donating $1 per adult ticket from the features on Screen 2.

Screen 2 will feature 1998’s John Carpenter’s Vampires and the 1988 sci-fi classic Killer Klowns from Outer Space.

For recorded movie information please call 937-890-5513.

When I watch Roadhouse, I always get a kick out of the quote by Jeff Healey, the blind band member “Man, this toilet is worse than the one we worked in Dayton.” It has been suggested that he is referring to the former First Stop bar on Brown Street.

Yeah, they’re doing it to honor him. Not to get people to come to their crap shack and overcharge them. This is just a bandwagon attempt to hit everyone up while it’s hot and try to play on people thinking they’re doing a good thing.

I’m still boycotting the Oscars over the snubbing of Road House. Definitely a movie that speaks to a generation.

Being a member of the Official Patrick Swayze International Fan Club, I noted at the site that Lisa (Niemi) Swayze has set up for a fund in Patrick’s name: Sunday 20th September 2009 Patrick’s wife Lisa has contacted us with news of a Research Fund in Patrick’s name. Here is Lisa’s message: ” Stanford University is coalescing existing research activities on pancreas cancer to form a Pancreas Cancer Center. This center will expedite application of emerging technologies and the development of molecular targeted therapies all focused on pancreas cancer. Of course, our wonderful Dr. George Fisher is involved with all this and setting up this fund in Patrick’s name. Checks should be made out to: “Patrick Swayze Pancreas Cancer Research Fund” & sent to: Stanford Cancer Center 875 Blake Wilbur Dr. Palo Alto CA 94304.” Sincere thanks to Lisa for sending us this news and we back the Research Fund with all our support. Please promote the Research Fund if you can. You may want to pass this information along to the owners of the drive-in so they can be sure the money they collect goes to the fund set up in Patrick’s name. I was pleased to see your article and hope I can work it out to go with some friends. I met Patrick several years ago at a horse show at the Kentucky Horse Park and had watched him and Lisa both showing at the U.S. Arabian Nationals different times. His illness and death have really hit me hard. Thank you for reading this and, hopefully, getting this information to the people. Sincerely, Eve Cusac

I’ve never seen Ghost or Dirty Dancing, but I have seen Roadhouse about 10 times! :D Bouncer: “What if someone calls my momma a whore?” Dalton: “Is she?”

Road house is a classic R movie of the 1980’s. “1. Never underestimate your opponent, expect the unexpected. 2. Never start anything inside, always take it outside. and 3. Be Nice.”
