Washington Twp. — Southview Medical Center's maternity unit is the Dayton area's first and Ohio's third to be designated "Baby Friendly" by the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
The Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative aims to improve babies' health worldwide and has honored 67 U.S. hospitals.
"This is such a thrill for us because it recognizes our effort to provide optimal care for lactation, which is so important for child development," maternity center director Belinda Masters said. "It requires a great deal of training for staff, and it provides wonderful benefits for mothers and babies."
