Screenwriter hosts movie screening in west Georgia

The Associated Press

CARROLLTON, Ga. —

Academy Award-winning screenwriter Geoffrey Fletcher is set to host a free screening of his new film "Violet and Daisy" in western Georgia.

School spokeswoman Elizabeth Stone says the event is being hosted Friday at the Carrollton Cultural Arts Center — about 50 miles west of downtown Atlanta.

The film is about a pair of teens fighting crime in New York City and is scheduled to be released in June. Fletcher won an Academy Award in 2010 for his screenplay "Precious," and is a graduate of Harvard University and New York University.

Stone says the screening features a question and answer session with the writer and a reception afterward.

The screening is set for Friday at 7:30 p.m. and is and open to the public.
